I've used the Body Shop's Raging Red henna to colour my hair, but I hear that they have stopped selling this henna now as they've been sued because they could not guarantee the exact shade the henna would give you *needless to say I it this most bizarre that someone would sue for this, it being a natural product and therefore not controllable with all the different variables, AND the fact it's the Body Shop which is supposed to cater for natural ingredients* - go figure!!!
However, this has left me in a bit of a situation as I'd like to continue henna-ing my hair as I love the colour (if not the smell or the process - cow pat head anyone??) and the fact that it's natural and also good for my long hair (which has taken a lot of crazy colour abuse over the years). I need to find some decent henna which will give me the same glorious red colour without sending me traffic-stopping ginger or damping the colour down. I've heard of the Lush henna bar but was wondering what people's experiences were with it, or whether anyone has tried the body quality henna from the online sites? See, I'm kinda lost as to the different types and flummoxed as to which one would be good. So iffin y'all can help lil ole me, it'd be greatly appreciated :o)

Re: Henna for Hair in the UK
Fri, August 8, 2008 - 5:39 AMHi Pippy, I've used Lush's caca rouge for about 6 months and I think its OK-it's a bit messy though to grind the bars down before mixing with water. Its a pain to rinse out of the hair though and my hair is just a bit above the shoulders.
this last time I tried henna from Mehandi.com(body art quality) and wow that one is red! :) And much easier to rinse out afterwards as well.

Fri, August 8, 2008 - 7:12 AMI haven't used them myself yet, but I've heard good things about the ones from Mountain Rose Herbs: www.mountainroseherbs.com/hair/hair.html

Re: Henna for Hair in the UK
Fri, August 8, 2008 - 6:35 PMI heart the lush caca rouge. But I concur with the difficulty of application/preparation. Although the color is super fantastico awesome. And, the butters in it (shea and other fun stuff) give hair a loverly deep condition. -

Sat, August 9, 2008 - 2:14 AMGet thee to Lush for caca rouge! The caca marron is the most beautiful though - a real conker red/brown!

Re: Henna for Hair in the UK
Sat, August 9, 2008 - 1:47 PMhow bizarre! just daft to sue for that! anyway, can recommend lush henna - yes it is a bit messy but isn't all henna! - but added bonus is that seems to condition hair as well. try & leave in for as long as poss though - up to 6 hours if you are very patient! - as that seems to give the best colour & sheen. caca rouge gives a really vibrant red (lovely!); for something a little tamer caca maron mixed with caca brun gives a warm reddy/brown. again, results always vary, so hope they never get sued!

Re: Henna for Hair in the UK
Mon, August 11, 2008 - 6:48 AMI'm going to be the one person who says don't go with the lush henna. My boyfriend and I tried it a few months ago and it did absolutely nothing to both of our heads of hair. We did exactly what the store clerk said and went by what was suggested by most people on the lush forums. I'll echo the sentiment that it's very messy but the scent also gets very nauseating after a while (which is sad because it starts out very pleasant).
Hopefully I just got a bad batch... -

Re: Henna for Hair in the UK
Mon, August 11, 2008 - 7:32 AMThat's why I don't really like Lush's henna, it's never consistent, sometimes you get a really nice red and sometimes its not very red at all-
I buy my henna in bulk then freeze the amount I'm not using to keep it fresh. Then I also prefer to add the things I want to the pure stuff I've never been happy with the cocoabutter and things that Lush mixes in with theirs it doesn't do much to keep my hair moisturised. -

Mon, August 11, 2008 - 9:03 AMWow, thanks ladies for all your replies. I think I might try the Lush bar first and see how I get on with that, if I don't like it or the results then I can always go down the other route. Thanks for responding. *hugs*
