Just wondering if anyone has tried the natural "rock" deodorant. I know it doesn't stop you from sweating, but is suppose to keep you from smelling. I am wanting to get away from aluminum based anything. Ideas, comments, experience? Thanks!

I tried this two different times but it didn't do anything for the smell. I'm sure if you don't sweat alot, you could use it, but it unfortunately wasn't for me.

I personally found this woman on Etsy named soap who makes custom scented soap and deodorant, and I love mine so far. I have been using it for about 7 months, now and I like it, but it is just now turning into summer here so I will see how well it keeps me smellin good. But I sweat like a man, and have an extremely active job where I sweat pretty often, and this deodorant works for me. Her direct link is: www.etsy.com/shop.php Her shop is called Bathing In Luxury. There is a huge list of all her diff. scents and she sends you sample soap squares with your orders as well. I ordered lil travel size deodorant for 2bux a piece so I could try a few diff scents that sounded interesting, and liked them all actually, even the ones for my boyfriend. And they are all natural! Gotta love Etsy!

Also, I found these online a lil while ago in my initial search for all natural deodorant. If you want to give them a try, I have not yet.

      Powder:

      ½ cup cornstarch
      ½ cup baking soda

      Homemade Deodorant!!!

5 drops of organic peppermint essential oil
5 drops of organic lavender essential oil
You can also add any organic essential oil you please, such as cinnamon oil, rosemary oil, cedarwood oil, sandalwood oil, patchouli oil, tea tree oil etc, vanilla oil. Have fun with it!
Add ingredients in a glass jar with a screw-on lid. Apply daily with a liberal amount on a powder puff or cosmetic brush.
Takes 5 minutes to make. Lasts 6 months or so.

      Liquid:

      1/8 cup 80 proof vodka
      1/4 cup distilled water
      3 tablespoons of witch hazel
5 drops of organic essential oil as used in the powder deodorant.
You may use any couple of oils you desire. Have fun with it!
Add ingredients in a spray bottle. Apply daily with a liberal amount of spray beneath the arms!
Takes 5 minutes to make. Lasts 6 months or so.

        "Powder:

        ½ cup cornstarch
        ½ cup baking soda

        Homemade Deodorant!!!"

I have used that particular recipe for about 10 years until recently. It's better to use about 1/3 c baking soda to 2/3 c cornstarch. The recommended amount is rough on the skin under the arm and can cause darkening. Raising the proportion of the cornstarch fixes that. Nor did I bother to scent it since then it might clash with any perfume should I wear it. It does last a long time but you will have white powder on your arm pits to begin with after applying. So, some good some bad but it does work and on heavy odor at that, my husband even switched to it.

how does one apply this? just poof it on? I'm curious to look into that, baking soda and cornstarch are not expensive! (I paid 4 bucks for deoderant after I left mine for my cruise and that was TRAVEL SIZED! jackasses) so I'm all about economic stuff! lol

I used a large cosmetic puff about 3-4" diameter. I also had a matching round metal cosmetic jar (about 1 1/2"-2" deep) that I mixed the powder in and just left the puff in between uses.

The price was my husbands favorite part as well.

I personally have never tried it but I know my sister has and as far as I know it works for her.. And there is also (I think) a liquid rock deodorant. It's worth a try I would think.

I have been using a Rock Crystal Deodorant for years and love it! It is not for everyone but for me its amazing. Some other natural deodorants turned weird smelling on my skin (like Tom's of Maine) but I have had no issues with the Rock Crystal at all.

Love it! Love it! Love it! Both my mother and her mother used the rock deodorant. I didn't know this until I was complaining about regular deodorant and my mom shared...

It lasts forever; I've been working on the same stick for 2 years. I don't have the funky skin reaction (my pits were dark) nor smell reaction (always felt like I smelled like sweat no matter what flavor I used) that I had with regular deodorants.

I do sweat a lot, so sometimes I have to be careful or use some of my girlfriend's antiperspirant, but I only do this when I'm planning on being really sweaty or it's been a bit since I've showered (sounds gross, but really not!). Every once in a while, I'll smell a bit, but it's not too often and my GF says she smells it only when we hug or if her nose is close to my pits.

If you like having a smell, you'll have to use something else or just use perfume. Try it out, you won't lose anything.

I've been using it for years, and love it. I have noticed that if I eat more meat, it doesn't work as well for me - a couple of other people I know have said they have the same experience.

well I have been a vegetarian my entire life and the crystal deodorants still don't work for me but everyone is different. I am currently using Arm & Hammer Essentials Natural Unscented Deodorant it is Aluminum and Paraben Free it seems to work well.

That is what I am currently using myself.

I have used the crystal deodorant in the past and it does work IF... if you wet your skin and not the rock. Perhaps for most people this isn't an issue but when I sweat I sweat and by not wetting the stone I was able to get a thicker coat that worked rather then a thin one that didn't hold up.

    Yes!

I have been using crystal rock deodorant for over a year now.

At first I felt as though it wasn't working and I believe that had to do with my body adjusting to something natural, but as time progressed I was absolutely thrilled with the results.

My significant has been using it for many years and if you have ever been in close quarters with a man (which I'm sure you have)... well... you know it can be less than pleasant. However, I'll tell you, rarely if ever does he smell.

Now, if that isn't great endorsement for that product, I don't know what is.

It works great for my sister who's been using it for years, but not so well for me. I do sweat more than she does though. If I go one day with out deo everyone can tell and I just don't like it. -Freya

I've been using a crystal deodorant for years now and I'll never go back to chemical based products. It works really well for me, even during Auntie Flo's visits when the hormonal changes mean I need something heavy duty, and even works through marathon dance classes or performances in the hot sun. I still sweat buckets, but I don't smell. Also, I have excema and it tends to flare up in my armpits badly with chemical products but isn't nearly as much an issue with my crystal deodorant.

Hope this is not "to much information", It's also great for the crotch area especially in the hot months, and a god send for the males prone to chafing. Opps sorry. I keep one in the shower. %-)

Love my rock, and for me it has the added benefit for me is my pit acne cleared up.

The only time I have a problem is at certain times its not quite enough such as major stress presentations and performing during the summer. Will try the wetting the skin to see if that does the trick.

I have trouble with my deodorant melting in my bag or suitcase in the trunk. Maybe this is the answer. Thanks!

So, how do you use this rock deoderant? Ive heard about it for years, but have never seen it in a store. I also have a sweating condition, where I sweat heavily from the waist up. With the least exertion the sweat is rolling off of me, dripping on the inside of my gasses, making my hair sopping wet, rolling down my chest, drooling down my face and back. Its a real problem for me, and I cant stand the feel of sweat dripping down my skin. Its so bad that I am cold all the time- wet hair and clothes all the time then going into airconditioning, or in winter- outside. It simply makes me miserable. I cant get any doctor interested, let alone believe me. Forget make up. I have to use waterproof everything from foundation to shadows, liners, mascara. I have to wear a heavy sweat band or folded bandana in class and then I STILL have sweat running . Man, I hate the feeling. I wear all black or white so the sweat doesnt show, it makes me crazy! Anyone have any ideas?

Well, the rock won't stop sweating...its a deodorant rather than an antiperspirant, but its worked well for me for sweat smells. Its easy to use...just run the rock under water to wet it and then rub it on whatever skin you wish to keep sweet smelling. Let the damp skin dry and go about your day.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but after a Google search I was able to find what sounds like the condition you're describing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperhidrosis I'm sure you could find some reputable medical sites as well if you Google the word Hyperhidrosis.

According to the Wikipedia entry there are several treatment options, so if your doctor won't take you seriously it might be time to get another doctor or check with a dermatologist or other specialist.
