Fang Issues

So I got a pair of fangs for Halloween (I'm being a water demon) and other random gothy occassions...

I'm having issues. Grrr.

They're the sort that you mix the base and catalyst together and then stick in the fang then stick the fang to your teeth and they're "supposed" to make a mold that will suction your tooth to the fang...

My issue is this.

My right cainine tooth is sort of rounded and smooth, and I seem to be having an issue with getting the tooth deep enough into the mold to actually make a suction. I've had this issue before with fangs, and I was hoping age paired with makeup experience would have fixed the problem. It didnt.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting this thing to stick?

Sounds like maybe your tooth is too big for the fang? If so, you'll just have to get a larger set...otherwise, if it's just not contacting the bonding agent, then add a bit more...I had a broken tooth and got my fangs to fit, just fine...just takes some working with.

Oh...and it's not gonna suction to your tooth...you're gonna have to hold it in place till it sets...then you should be able to pop it in and out, at will.

I have a similar problem with the mix and stick type of fangs. I found the the dracula fangs, which use the melting thermoplastic fit much better, as they lock onto multiple teeth. They're a bit messier, as you have to play with hot plastic in your hands and mold it then stick it to your teeth, but they fit much better.

Dracula fangs, while harder to find, are usually cheaper than the mix and stick ones. And you may be able to find the thermoplastic itself at a costume shop

Denture adhesive ftw. And it's one product that's actually *supposed* to go in your mouth, so no worries about toxins or anything. Good luck!

Oh...my goodness...you just gave me the solution to not being able to wear my fangs anymore...I got extensive dental work done and now have a full mouth of dentures...so I was lamenting the fact that I'd never be able to wear fangs again...but this should work...

Thank you, thank you, thank you...I don't know why I didn't think of that...*slaps forehead*

If you run across anyone that makes custom fangs and you have the extra money, go for those. They're reusable and fitted to you so you don't have to use adhesives. I got a pair at Dragoncon about 6 years ago, lost them & got another pair this year.

So...I ended up using almost the entire thing of the adheasive mold crap that came with the fangs...But I finaly managed to get them on and suctioned.

Couse, I had the mold stuff like WAY the hell up on my gumline, but it's not like I open my mouth that wide anyways.

If they are the Scarecrow brand, it says to trim the fang if needed with the dry run fittings. I have a strange tooth on the left side of my mouth. I could never get the top to 'seal.' It worked though, 2 caplets of powder for the left and only 1 for the right. You can pull the stuff out and start over. You can get more 'kits' of the capsules and 'stuff.' I've done my short fangs twice now. And they still rub like new braces. The 'stuff' actually ended up wrapping behind one of my other teeth. Luckily it's clear.

Ye, mine were the small vampfangs and you can do the same thing...just like trimming down artificial nails...altho, I didn't have to do that with mine...they fit perfectly and looked very natural...*sigh*...I miss my fangs.
