My troupe has a benefit that we are performing at in a few weeks and the theme is Harlequin. I've looked online for some simple makeup ideas and I haven't found a whole lot. I also keep getting the Harlequin infant syndrome (not a pretty picture...yick) which is definitely not what I want to see. Does anyone have any suggestions or links that might help us with some cool makeup ideas?

Re: Harlequin makeup
Mon, February 4, 2008 - 2:55 PMGenerally harlequin is a white face with simple black eyeliner, dark lips, and a shape on one cheek--diamonds, a heart, or a cluster of triangles. Harley Quinn from the "Batman" comics is a good starting place. You can also search for Commedia del Arte, comedy/tragedy masks, theatre masks, or Italian carnival.
I think it's a great jumping-off point for a bellydance theme and there are a lot of good places to take this. Please take and post lots of pictures, and good luck!

Re: Harlequin makeup
Tue, February 5, 2008 - 2:03 PMThese pictures are fabulous! I'm not sure how far we're going with costuming, but we definitely wanted to get some Harlequin elements in our costuming...especially our makeup. If anyone finds more links, send 'em this way! Thanks for all these great ideas =) -

Re: Harlequin makeup
Tue, February 5, 2008 - 10:54 PMYou might search some pictures of The Dresden Dolls also...they do some interesting makeup also...although it might be closer to mime than harlequin...but its worth a shot....

Re: Harlequin makeup
Wed, February 6, 2008 - 3:30 PMHarlequin originally meant deamon. :}
Anywho, you could try just a few stars on your cheeks or maybe doing the whole mask thing. It could be subtle with some rhinestones outlining your eyes where a mask would be all the up to a full-on painted mask. It sounds fun yo me. :)

Re: Harlequin makeup
Thu, February 7, 2008 - 6:09 PMIf you did the full mask you could do it in glitter ie. Eye Kandy.....my daughter did a pirate eye patch out of eye kandy for her birthday and it was so cute.

Fri, February 8, 2008 - 7:06 PMI put up some pictures on my profile of makeup that I did the other night...yes, sometimes in my lonely hours I get out my Ben Nye Student Kit and just mess around. And, as it turns out, my camera phone gets pretty good resolution. :) Hope they help.

Re: Harlequin makeup
Sat, February 9, 2008 - 4:13 PMMy husband and I went as harlelquins to a Haloween deal last year..
My daughters friend came over and did the make up. she did white base then drew 3 diagnol lines from top left to bottom right - the 2 diagnol lines top right to bottom left. where they intresect she made a black dot. Some of the diamonds [that were made by the intersecting lines] where painted red and some black and some left white. Then she drew in heavy eye liner and made spirals out from the out side corners of the eyes. Added Eye Kandy glitter to the eyes and tah dah !
I wish I had a picture.. but can't see to find one on this compurter right now.
