Ok, am I the only burlesque dancer who swear by MaryKay mineral powder?

I mentioned this the other night @ cabaret and got the strangest looks!
It seriously works for me?

Anyone else?
Anyone?
Bueller?
Bueller?

Hmmm. I use Mary Kay and I'm not familar with the mineral powder. Is it similar to the loose powder? I have a jar of that are really like it. However, as I get older the powder tends to accentuate the fine lines on my skin, so I have been using it less. Is the mineral powder really good for setting makeup and keeping it from running?

To keep makeup from running, you should be using a primer. To "set" makeup, you'll want to use a product like Ben Nye's Final Seal.

I use both the mineral foundation powder and the mineral powder. I wear them for everyday and for performances including hot nasty outdoor ones. They work great for humid sweaty days. It doesn't melt off like regular foundation can.
I'm also a Mary Kay junkie.

Thanks goodness I thought it was just me!

I use the loose mineral powder and kabuki, LOVE it! :-)

I'm running out of my Mary Kay, but the girl I bought it from was so pushy that I don't want to get any more from her. Can you buy it direct? -Freya

Just go to MaryKay.com, but I think it gets delivered by a MaryKay consultant (at least it does when you buy off of a consultants page link).

Thanks. I've been avoiding the girl and she finally stopped calling. She used to call 3 or 4 times every week and I just stopped answering her calls. I'm a bit of a chicken and didn't want to hurt her feelings. I obviously have trouble with setting boundaries. -Freya

Don't know how I missed this reply, but sorry its so late! :)

I actually have a site there and I ship in the domestic USA for free, plus offer the ability to pay via Paypal. If you're ever interested in ordering anything drop me a line, I'm definetly not your average overly agressive MK lady, 3 or 4 times a week is *insane!* lol!

          Cheers!

Thanks! I'll definitely check it out! I thought about selling Mary Kay once, but I'm a low, very low pressure kind of sales person and that's why I never manage to sell a lot of my art work. I just can't harass people into buying things and I don't really want to. I'm glad you think that's insane too! -Freya

Ha, yes, I definetly fall into a very laid back....off center MKay kind of background/profile!
I see alot of blonde super hyper cheerleader types @ the events, as where I myself am more of a corseted tribal feathered bohemian weirdo lol. I love the stuff so much though, it was impossible to say no to selling it, esp. with the massive discount they offer if you vend it, good times! If you do put an email into the site, just be sure to mention tribe.net so I know who you are!

              Thanks! :)

              Cheers!

To answer the question about normal Mary Kay loose powder versus the Mineral powder, the mineral one is very finely milled, and contains minerals that reflect/ diffuse/refreact light, creating an optical illusion that hides flaws, wheras the normal powder is matte, and is considered a finishing product, to help set a liquid foundation.
It is a good thing to note that for live, up-close performance, mineral powder will do what it says it will, and is great for daily wear. However, under stage lights, or camera flash, it can reflect too much, and give a shiny look, or not give as complete of coverage because of the intense lights. Best to stick to matte finish products and powders forstage and photographs, excluding well-placed shimmer or body glitter for effect.
I too am a consutant, and have had to cope with the "mainstream Mary Kay Lady" ideal that I was supposed to be cookie-cutter stereotypical evangelical.... and have run into too many women that have remade themselves in that image trying too hard to fit in. Thank you for being true to yourself, and being awesome!
And I have to put out there that I am in love with Ultimate Mascara!

                  AGH!
I too am *addicted* to that mascara, something fierce...and I *swore* by, and I do mean, swore by Maybelline's Waterproof (with the green cap) for years, but I once I put that stuff on it was pretty much an ended affair with the dollar store stuff. My lashes are ok to begin with, and I detest the application time needed for fake lashes, but this mascara made it appear I had fakies on without the glue work since they were mine! In regards to the powder, I did notice that in the pics taken with a flash @ shows, I got a bit of illumination effect under my eyes, but I couldn't nail down whether that was highlighter pen or the powder itself making that happen. I've never (and I know I'm breaking MKay code here) tried their matte products, just the mineral. I'll make a note to myself to throw some in the next order though!

                  Cheers!

I also have a "green cap" mascara, since their brown is closer to natural on me (fair w/ freckles, strawberry blonde hair) but the MK one in black because of the "pow" factor! :)

I started using medium coverage and the loose powder way back when I first started selling, and though I have tried the mineral powder (samplers) it just didn't cover as much as i wanted, and felt too dry for my tastes.
I will say that the new mineral versions of the eye and cheek colors however are IMO better colors, better staying power, and more versatile.
it might have been the highlighter, try either a shade lighter concealer in that area, or a matte white or nude shade of eye shadow instead.
At a glamour training I went to a long time ago (before Color insider came about) over foundation they used the vanilla eyesicles or a pale concealer to accent small areas just above browbone, apple of cheeks, inner eye, jawbone (contouring) then dusted the matte powder over all to help blend, then color on top of that.
I guess the "naked" feel of the minerals is just too different, since I am used to the heavy cake style makeup for stage productions (I think it was ben nye?) that would only come off with a thick layer of noxema cleanser and extended scrubbing after being baked under stage lights for 2+ hours of a play.
I haven't done much in the way of falsies, and have always wondered if hey are attached over applied makeup, does the powder make them harder to attach? (also bindis glued over makeup?) And I have used covergirl liqid liner some, but wondered what your opinion was of the Mary Kay version, as I have not yet tried it?
