An update for those of you that helped me out with the bridezilla issue I was having a while back...
I was told in no uncertain terms that the braids I wanted were not to happen and the braids she would allow made me look like an alien so in the end I cut 5 inches off my hair, turned it into a mass of cardboard-stiff tight corkscrew curls and then pinned it all up into a vaguely bob-shaped mess. It was totally chav-tastic and I did feel a bit of a mule but it was better than the alternative!!!
Thanks for all the suggestions. Glad to be doing it properly at my mums wedding in 5 weeks time...

Re: I lived to tell the tale!!
Fri, August 21, 2009 - 2:27 PMNot really - she was so controlling that she spent the whole day panicking that nothing was happening as it was supposed to!
Believe it or not, of the 250 odd pictures on facebook there's not a single one of me! I'll post them up when I finally get hold of one and then you can see the hair and the (godawful) dress lol. -

Re: I lived to tell the tale!!
Mon, August 24, 2009 - 11:38 AMThat's so sad, for her. My husband and I got married at the courthouse, convenience, marraige tax deduction, we had been living together for 3 years. But, I'm really wanting a ceremony. So, I've asked the leader of my church to give us a "renewal of vows/handfasting" ceremony. It's gonna be simple, but so sweet....and I'll get the ceremony thingy that I didn't realize would be so important.
I hate to boast, but I HAVE to show ya'll the dress....please forgive me

We eloped (well, sort of - told our families to meet us for dinner and then an hour before changed the location) and 3 years in I am now wanting a party and a dress!

Re: I lived to tell the tale!!
Tue, August 25, 2009 - 8:30 PMWhen I got married we had 2 ceremonies:the 1st was a small with a justice of the peace and then 4 months later the one my mother had dreamed about.
Glad to hear you survived the experience, its a shame what families sometimes do to each other and what we do to ourselves -

Re: I lived to tell the tale!!
Fri, August 28, 2009 - 2:00 PMwhy wait for a wedding to dress up and be the Belle of the Ball? i got hitched in uniform (yes, both of us, in uniform!) at the courthouse, and that marriage went out with the compost two years later, but i did have the wonderful idea to celebrate our subsequent anniversaries with a renewal of vows in different worldwide traditions. (he said it would be too costly - i was drooling to make our outfits for each occasion!)
now then - i say that if i do it again i want a full on Greco-Roman shindig: tables heaving with fruits and veg, animals roasting on the spit, casks of wine the size of Smart cars, a lute-lyre-drum band, a true priestess of Juno for the handfasting, everyone in flowing robes with laurel crowns for the boys and lavender for the girls....
but why wait? i think i'll just do it for the next milestone birthday!
(and if it's YOUR -you and your spouse's - day, do what YOU want, not your family - i understand how we want to please our folks (the tales i can tell), but really... eventually, they have to let go.)
