Buying hair pieces in Wichita, KS

Oh my God! I've been in Wichita all week and found out about a place called Sam's Beauty Supply Plus, looking for hair pieces to wear over the famous sock bun. The walls were just absolutely full of hair pieces of all types in all sorts of colors. I was like a kid in a candy shop and Mr. Sam Hong, the owner, helped me and fixed hair clips on my purchases. I bought 2 curly falls -- 1 longer and 1 short/medium length which look like a cascade of curls @ $11.99 each, 1 package of long hair about 40" long which I initially plan to braid to wrap around my bun @ $.99, a pair of decorated hair sticks @ $1.49, and 5 fun curly yarn things (to make into a hair fall) at 5 for $.99. So, for $30 bucks I can really change my hair looks for dance or everyday. Yes, I use hair pieces to work and social events and just last Saturday a girl said she wished she knew who my hair dresser is. Teehee! :)

Thank you to Bellatrix for her recent hair/makeup workshop where she taught about using sock hair buns and topping them with hair pieces. I'm loving it all!

Oooo, I have family in Pratt and Wichita, so next time I'm running through town I'll have to invade! Personally I love this wig shop near my house on Wornall in KC that has all sorts of fun goodies and Sally's Beauty Supply has fairly cheap human hair for making stuff out of... fake hair is the BEST!

Yes, I thought the prices very good! Sam's address is 3910 E. Harry Street. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have a website.

        K. Now I have a use question. I want to make tiny braids (thin, not short) using the hair which is about 40" long. When I try to separate a smaller strand it gets really tangled the further down I go. What am I doing wrong? Can I use conditioner on it to make it tangle free?

Thank you for any help. Since I only bought the one package I'd really like to cut down on waste.

Questions... Is the hair your bought human hair or synthetic? Is the hair you bought curly or straight?

Also....is it just a yank of hair in a package, or is it a weft (on a track)?

It's synthetic; I guess you'd call it a yank. It's a bunch gathered in the middle with an elastic and was folded in half in the package.

hmmmm....that's exact kind that we braid for our falls, so that's odd. Maybe you're trying to be careful with it? That may sounds weird, but all we do is undo the twisty-tie at the top & grab ahold of a small section in one hand, with the rest in the other hand and PULL til you have two separate sections. Should be able to just pull them apart pretty easily. Then you can either put an elastic band (we use the clear ones) at one end & start braiding down, or you can tie a piece of string around the middle (helps to then tie it to a table leg or your toe or something) & braid both ends down, capping off with the clear plastic elastics.

Are you doing something different? Or is it trying to tangle when you're simply just yanking them apart?

Bellatrix, I hadn't seen your latest responses as this thread kind of got buried in the back of the store, LOL. Anyway, I'm done and it so happens I ended up doing almost exactly what you said. I tied it back in the middle and got it all smooth and untangled. I then tied 1/2 to the towel bar, pulled up my little make-up bench and started separating a section at a time and braiding. Once I got that 1/2 done, I made sure the unbraided half was untangled and separated each braid. Then I tied each individual braid to the towel bar and braided the other 1/2 by separating a little into the braided part to get the sections correct. I ended up with 8 long braids with minimal waste after I got the system down. Now, to figure out what to do with them! :)

BTW, I tried the toe part but thought...how would I do this if this was a person's head...the person would be in front and I'd work away from them towards me. Sometimes thinking gives me a horrible headache and sometimes I come up with something. :)
