Hi there everyone!
I was wondering what other people do to safely transport their makeup brushes. I'm replacing my medium-quality brushes with very high quality brushes and I don't want to mess them up when I travel to a gig! I kept my old brushes in a zip-up bag, and it protected them pretty well, considering. They already had askew bristles and stuff so I wasn't to worried. But these new ones are perfect, and they don't shed when you wash them . . . they're fantastic and I want to keep them that way! By the way, I highly recommend them, they're by The Body Shop. They are sooo soft, and like I said they don't shed. They spread the makeup quickly and smoothly, and it looks fantastic. Plus, as far as high-end brushes go they are relatively inexpensive.
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Transporting Makeup Brushes
Tue, November 25, 2008 - 11:31 PMa brush case would be your best bet.
i have one from ULTA that works great for me.
my first instinct was to get one from MAC, but $45 was a little steep for me >_<
but a good affordable brand to check out is Japonesque.

Tue, November 25, 2008 - 11:38 PMYep...brush case would be your best bet...and I agree about the Body Shop brushes...they're woooonderful...:-)
If you need a good way to carry your brushes till you can get a good case...have you got an old silk scarf that you don't use anymore? Take the scarf and roll your brushes, one by one, into the scarf...put one down, roll a couple times...put another down...roll...etc. Fold the ends over before you get to the last bit of scarf and then tuck that part around...wrap them up tight...smoothing the bristles as you go along...and if you wrap it tight enough, your brushes will come out just as smooth and frazzle free as they were when you put them in. This is how I transported my brushes on their trip all the way to Australia and back, so I guarantee that it works.
I just hope I explained that right...it'd be kind of like rolling up a burrito...but less messy...;-)
Oh...secure the bundle with a piece of ribbon or string...don't wanna forget that... -

Re: Transporting Makeup Brushes
Wed, November 26, 2008 - 2:04 AMSeriously dont go buying a makeup brush case, check the discount aritist stores both on and off line.
They have brush cases some of which have a draw string that allows you to turn it into an A frame (upside down V) so you can stand it on your table when you are making up.
I got one for what at the time was equivalent to $8-10 for when I was attempting face painting and now I used it for makeup brushes -

Wed, December 10, 2008 - 3:07 PMDitto here. I love watercolor brushes - soft on the skin and easy to clean. They come in a lot of great shapes that make-up brushes don't, too.

Wed, November 26, 2008 - 8:19 AMYou could attempt to make your own case. I think it would be very similar construction to a knitting needle case. www.knittingonthenet.com/patte...se.htm

Wed, November 26, 2008 - 12:45 PMSide note -- don't ever feel like you need to spend mucho $$$ on "high-quality" (ie, brand-name) brushes in order to have good makeup brushes. Buy the natural-bristle brushes at any art store for $3-5 a pop -- they work just as well & last just as long...for a fraction of the cost! -

Re: Transporting Makeup Brushes
Thu, November 27, 2008 - 11:44 PMYeah, I never go off of brand names - I just find what feels AMAZING, doesn't seem to shed, and doesn't smell. Yeah, once I ordered a 30 piece brush set from Hong Kong . . . and they smelled like chemical waste! Eew! Never doing that again . . .

Re: Transporting Makeup Brushes
Wed, November 26, 2008 - 8:59 PMI carry a lot of make-up and jewelry. I pack them all in a tackle box, which has a handy little tray that the brushes fit in nicely! Also, to keep the bristles nice, you can make a bristle sleeve out of straws and tubing..... that way they won't get crushed in your bag or box. -

Mon, December 1, 2008 - 12:28 AMI put my brushes in a pencil tin. It's long and flat, but I think you can get them in varying sizes and they have cute designs on them. Mine's from London with the tube station logos on it. :} -

Re: Transporting Makeup Brushes
Mon, December 1, 2008 - 1:47 PMI'm planning on making my own "brush case" off of a pencil/crayon case pattern I have.
Where it's actually going to fall on the list of things I'm "going to do" though, I can't say. But at least if I make it myself, I can fit the brushes I actually have, leave space for the brushes I plan to get, separate the "everyday use" brushes from the "special occasion" brushes, and maybe even leave room for a little mirror…
