I have some amazing glitters, but I can't keep them on over my shadows. They only stay put over cream shadows. So, what should I use to get them to stick? water perhaps? I know it will stick to lotion, but don't really wanna put that over my eyeshadow...

Sun, July 5, 2009 - 11:47 AMBummer. I was hoping I had something on hand that may work. The eye kandy is on my list of "someday soon I will be able to buy"
Thanks a bunch -

Re: getting glitter to stick
Sun, July 5, 2009 - 12:33 PMWhen I perform and do the glitter thing, I apply it dry with a small brush and then spray Ben Nye's Final Seal spray all over my face. I usually do it 2 - 3 times. It holds my makeup in place *and* the glitter.
I tried the liquid sugar stuff with eye kandy but when I tried to apply some over my liner, it took my eyeliner with it! GAH!!!!!

Tue, July 14, 2009 - 5:00 AMClear or light-colored lip gloss works great. I don't know if this is true with the other products, but you have to "press" the glitter on- not brush it on. -

Not on your eyes.

Re: getting glitter to stick
Sun, July 5, 2009 - 12:40 PMLube.
It works wonders! Put a little on your finger, tap it against your thumb to warm it up and make it sticky, close your eyelid, and apply it where you want the glitter to stick. Dip your finger in the glitter, and tap it on to the lubed area of your lid. You can make it very think or get a thin sheen, just keep tapping it on until you are happy. Let it dry (maybe 20 - 30 seconds), open your eye, and that glitter will not go anywhere until you are ready to take it off.
I learned this trick from a fellow dancer many years ago, and though it can be amusing to carry lube your performance bag...well, it works. -

Re: getting glitter to stick
Sun, July 5, 2009 - 12:44 PMBe careful with what you put on your eyes - make sure it is tested for use on your eyes & therefore safe for use on your EYES. I doubt that Lube is tested for use on your eyes. -
-
Re: getting glitter to stick
Sat, July 11, 2009 - 10:14 AMI have to agree with Bella here. What might be tested for one area of the body isn't necessarily tested for another.
I don't know that I'd ever put Lube that close to my eyes. Especially knowing that many these days are heat "activated". Having those types near your eyes or anywhere on your face where you might get warm while dancing(I know I get rather warm all over my face), might cause them to run more once the heat of your raising body temp "activates" them thus its almost like your asking it to get in your eyes and cause trouble.
No thank you....that mixed with contact lenses terrifies me. -

Re: getting glitter to stick
Mon, July 13, 2009 - 9:35 AMIf you are using water-based lube, that's been made safe for inside vaginas and it's safe for people to get int their mouths, it's going to be fine for eyelids. However, remember that lube purposely becomes slick and fluid again when it contacts other body fluids (spit or sweat) so it may not stay dry once you are dancing up a storm. Naturally, do not be foolish enough to use a warming lube or something that is silicone-based as those are even stupid as sex lubes let alone makeup. -

This is NOT true. There are lots of things that you can put inside your mouth, etc that you cannot put in your eyes. Lemon juice, for example. Or cayenne pepper. And these are natural things... Do not put something on your eyes unless it says it has been tested *for use on your eyes*. -

You would put cayenne pepper or lemon juice in your vagina? (not taking sides but that's how I read this) -
-
Re: getting glitter to stick
Tue, July 14, 2009 - 5:18 AMthings that are fine to put in your mouth, like cayenne pepper or lemon juice would definitely NOT be fine to put on or in your vajayjay, in exactly the same way that lube, while fine to put in your mouth and vajayjay, is NOT fine to put in or on your eye.
I think that's what you're getting at, Bellatrix, is it not? -

Really? Semen is fine & dandy in vaginas, acceptable in mouths and stings like a bastard in the eyes.

Re: getting glitter to stick
Wed, July 15, 2009 - 5:50 PMThis thread certainly has been amusing, lol!
It may sound gross, but I just lick my finger and dab in on my preapplied shadow then I dab the glitter on top of it. Seems to work okay, but I do plan on expanding my medium, lol.
I also put a little rhinestone at the outside corner of my eyes usually, I put on a dab of eyelash glue, dab it on, then while its still drying I dab some glitter over it. Sticks to any excess glue for me and assure that the sparkle stays. I like the sparkle there better because its easier to see and I don't have to worry about it falling into my eyes.
Do you have any lotion for around your eyes? I have some because I tend to have shadows under my eyes (night shifter and all), if you have some of that you could try that for starters.

Re: getting glitter to stick
Thu, July 16, 2009 - 12:39 PMA little OT for this post, but my hubby's entire family swears by lube as a hair gel for babies, for getting those adorable little bows to stick on that baby peach fuzz and not fall out during holiday visits or for pictures. I never felt comfortable with the idea of pretty much supergluing a decoration to an infant's head, and have not personally used the idea on my kids.
Now thanks to this topic i'm tinking again about maybe using it to help hair decorations stay in place, or maybe mixing it with glitter, to draw henna-style designs on a slicked back ponytail, or even on the body. It would look pretty awesome for tribaret.
Any tips on a good glitter to sticky stuff ratio (lube or whatever you'd use like a body gel)? and his cousins all use KY for the baby hair.

Re: getting glitter to stick
Sun, July 5, 2009 - 4:39 PMhave you had any issues with it running? From personal experience, when lube dries, it's a pain to get off, so it seems it would work well. (TMI maybe?)

Thu, July 9, 2009 - 6:13 AMThis works great...and Astroglide works best, I've found.
And yes, it *is* amusing to have it in your dance bag... -

Re: getting glitter to stick
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 2:44 PMI use a Glitter liner (like Milani they have two sided liner sticks where one side is a glitter and the other is regular black with color) or a body craayon which around halloween Wet 'N Wild makes black and glitter (amoung others) -
-
Re: getting glitter to stick
Wed, July 8, 2009 - 2:09 PMI love the Milani glitter liners. I'm going to have to try more of their products. (I'm already using Milani blush too… the only brand that had the colors I was looking for on the day I was looking for it.)

Re: getting glitter to stick
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 8:08 PMI think I remember someone suggesting Visine (sp?) on another thread. You may want to check Eye Kandy threads on here to see what they use besides the Liquid Sugar. -
-
Re: getting glitter to stick
Wed, July 8, 2009 - 2:03 PMVisine is really good for foiling eyeshadow, and I have used it with pigments, so it'd probably be OK for glitter.

Re: getting glitter to stick
Wed, July 8, 2009 - 1:23 PMI've been known to use a dab of hair gel on a q-tip....just be very careful not to get it IN your eye!!!!!!!! -

Re: getting glitter to stick
Thu, July 9, 2009 - 5:19 AMI mix mine with the clear aloe vera gel, never tried it with the green gel, only the clear and it works wonders, I make my glitter eyeliner, body glitter and eye glitter all with the clear gel. -

Re: getting glitter to stick
Fri, July 10, 2009 - 6:16 AMOn a side note (probably wouldn't want to use over shadow), has anyone tried Mehron's AdGem? Says it is for glitters as well as gems, just wondering. Here's a linky..

Re: getting glitter to stick
Fri, July 10, 2009 - 3:43 PMI haven't tried this, but maybe eyebrow gel or clear mascara would work. They might be a safer alternative to the hair gel idea since they're products that are meant to be used around the eyes. -

Re: getting glitter to stick
Sat, July 11, 2009 - 7:30 AMAlso, a link for the best product I've used so far : www.eyekandycosmetics.com/store...7.html it's about $17.00 a bottle where I buy it in NYC, but its worth every penny of performance worthy investment! : )
-
Re: getting glitter to stick
Sat, July 11, 2009 - 12:18 PMThat's why I was suggesting eyebrow gel or clear mascara (instead of hair gel as someone initially suggested) - both of those are products made for use in the eye area and therefore should be safe for that use.

Re: getting glitter to stick
Mon, July 13, 2009 - 8:50 AMYou know, I have searched and searched for a really good RED eyeshadow and found that there isn't one that i like to speak of. the reason being, that although it's ok to put red pigments (like those used in lipstick and blush) on your lips and cheeks, it is NOT ok to put them on your eyes. it can be harmful. having said that, i am soooo not putting something intended for my "kitty" on my eyelids! i'm sure if you ask a professional (ie: an esthetician (sp?) or make up artist or at least the chics at Sephora even) that someone may have a safer, already tested method. also, you may not want to spend the money on Eye Kandy sugar, but it is SAFE and you won't have to worry about the possibility of spending hundreds or thousand later on a dr visit or surgery. i may sound like i'm over reacting, but frankly my eye sight is more important than my glitter. blasphemy coming from a belly dancer, i know. :) -

Re: getting glitter to stick
Sat, July 18, 2009 - 11:31 AMEyelash Glue. There is also a gel/mixing Mediam by Mac that I got in a sample (and doesn't have the name on it!) that works really well, doesn't rub off or run, but I can't remember the name! Other wise I use EyeLash glue or if its only on the centre of my eye (not near the corners) I use a bit of lip balm :) -
-
Re: getting glitter to stick
Sun, July 19, 2009 - 8:06 AM>> I use a bit of lip balm
Do I have to say that this is not tested for use on your eyes...???
-
Re: getting glitter to stick
Tue, July 21, 2009 - 12:54 AMDon't you think that if it was meant to be smeared on any part of your eyelid, it would be called eyelid-balm?

Re: getting glitter to stick
Sun, July 19, 2009 - 11:18 PMEyelash glue works pretty well, and it's intended for your eyes. Vaseline (petrolium jelly), although a bit gooey, is safe to use too. I use it as a makeup remover but it helps glitter stick and it's less trouble to remove than eyelash glue.
