Eye Kandy Queen here.....I actually take my eyeshadow and put the glitter directly into it, and stir with with an orange stick, then apply as always. It adheres to the shadow and applies evenly (I LOVE Loreal Hip but MAC also works..but more expensive). And if I want it nude on my eye, I either use a sheer powder or a matte/creme format and put the glitter directly into it. Again, stir, and apply with a brush. Works like a charm. You can then LIGHTLY hairspray over it to make it stick--Boz used to use astroglide, and it works, gel makes my lids freak out, but hairspray works, or you can paint over it with the Liquid Sugar adhesive. I've heard this about LiquiSet by Ben Nye and She-Laq but I'm violently allergic to both.

I wear eye kandy glitter every single day, both for stage and for street makeup. I love it and get compliments on it all the time and I'm 41 years old. I also bought an Eye Kandy distributorship because I loved the product so much, and because it is safe for use around the eyes, unlike the glitters I was using prior to that. Really, for any loose glitter, you need a decent adhesive. I use Liquid Sugar, which is what comes with eye kandy, but you could also use she-laq or Ben Nye's final seal. Half the application is having a good adhesive, and the other half is a decent brush for application. I use a rounded edge applicator brush for using glitter as a shadow, and an angled liner brush if I'm wearing it as an eyeliner. I dampen (not saturate) my brush in adhesive, then dip it in the loose glitter and paint it on in small strokes. If I don't like the look, I just wash it off and start again.

Be careful of using glitters that do not specifically state that they are for use around your EYES. Not all glitters are created equal. Most glitters are made of small pieces of METAL, that if they get in your eye, can scratch your cornea & cause permanent damage. No matter how many times you've "used it & it's been ok", it only takes once for it to cause permanent damage - and is it really worth that risk? Products like Eye Kandy, however, are specifically formulated & tested to be used around the eyes. Eye Kandy in particular is made of a polymer material in stead of metal, which won't scratch your cornea if it gets into your eyes. Be sure to read the "ingredients" labels on your glitters, and if you're not sure what they're made of, don't use them on your eyes.

i love Eye Kandy, but already have so much glitter i told myself i didnt need any more >_<
i use a jar of body glitter gel, and a stack of about 10 colors of loose glitter that i got at claire's. it's not the finest grade of glitter, but i've never had problems with it. you can usually find very fine grade glitters at craft stores, but they most likely won't have a large selection of colors.

i just usually apply the glitter as a liner- applying glitter over the whole lid needs a better "sealant" to keep it from creasing or staying sticky on your eyelids. i'm not familiar with the liquid that comes with the Eye Kandy, but it might work well for that.

what i do is use a small lipstick brush and apply a line of the glitter gel across my lash line, and then dip the brush into the loose glitter and pat the glitter onto the line of gel. i might do 2 or 3 coats, depending on what i'm going for. then just wait for the gel to dry. keep your eyes half closed so the wet gel doesnt stick to the upper part of your eyelid. i either fan my eyes with a folder...or whatever i have around than will "fan," or if i'm in more of a hurry, i'll close my eyes and use my hairdryer on the low setting to dry the gel.
you'll be able to tell when the gel is dry because it won't feel "cold" anymore.

I've heard you can use a little aloe vera as a base or very diluted hair gel. Never tried it myself though, so I'm not sure how well it works or if it could cause irritation.

Be sure you don't use regular craft glitter - get a cosmetic glitter. Craft glitter is full of nasty bits that can scratch your eyes.
