That's part of the reason why I gave up the 'no poo'...it was stripping the colour out of my hair...but while it will remove tone from the hair, it will not remove a permanent colour...permanent colours actually lift colour out of the hair, causing a structural change and nothing will undo that...it has to grow out... I used to color my hair but haven't for over a year and a half, and the color still in my hair seems to be more vibrant since starting no poo. The baking soda takes and gunk out of the hair, so I'm assuming it will work with hair spray. For those of you still using chemical hair color- isn't the point of no poo to get that crap detoxed out of the hair? I use a baking soda rinse about once a week and I condition from my ears down (long hair) every day.....been doing that for about 3 years now. I haven't had any problem with color lifting, in fact I'd say the color stays rich longer than it did when I shampooed every day. However, if you're using a glycerin bar soap (instead of an SLS-shampoo), it will strip the color out of your hair. The vinegar rinse is acid. The baking soda causes the cuticle of the hair shaft to lift up a little. The acid helps to make the cuticle lay flat and smooth again. That's why perms work the way they do... the perm solution is alkaline, followed by an acid neutralizer. One counteracts the other. Has anyone with chemically colored hair done the no poo thing? Actually baking soda is just the thing to remove silicone from the hair. Vinegar doesn't seem to remove anything per se, just acts as a conditioner, in my experience... and quite a heavy one at that. Baking soda however will strip anything out of your hair! I had to stop using it because I felt it was working a little too well. It seems like I get a couple of weeks, and then something ends up in my hair that I feel like it needs a good wash to get rid of. For example, I was in a wedding two weeks ago, and the girl doing our hair put an insane amount of hair spray in my hair (after I asked her to use as little as possible), and I just felt like it needed the shampoo to get all the gunk out. Last night, I had a "Squirt" soda bomb go off in my kitchen (fell off the counter, exploded, shooting Squirt all over everything, including me), my hair was soaked and sticky, so I washed it to get everything out. I've also wondered about chorine from pools and salt water at the beach...will baking soda/vinegar clean all the stuff out of my hair?
