I REALLY love maison kenzi for hair henna - http://www.kenzi.com she's got an extensive site with lots of links & info. I usually get a kilo & keep it in the freezer, since I use almost 2 cups every 6 weeks -
you can't be sure what's in the box on the shelf, or how old it is. Try the real stuff - it's wonderful.

After I use it & rinse it out (I don't shampoo it out) I also put a dab of "frizz-away" or whatever it's called on it since henna is slightly drying (like any mudpack I guess). I've got to say I get compliments on my hair pretty regularly. <blush> LOL

a little late for a response on this post but.........
if you're unsure, take some hair 'harvested' from your brush and do a henna treatment on that. then you can see the outcome and know what it will be like on your actual hair.

Even commercial hair coloring products fade out. I find that the henna does not fade any faster than the commercial product if used in the same manner (mix the batch, do the roots, then work the rest through your hair, or make the rest into a glaze and put through your hair).
If you are new to henna, read all the major sites: you will find them listed on this tribe on multiple occaisions. The 3 links I'm posting are inter-related and have tons of info, and I think, were mentioned before. There are free information offers there, too.

Sorry if I'm repeating anybody else -- I haven't been reading this board much lately -- but if you go to the Long Hair Community (longhaircommunity.com), they have an entire forum category on henna. There are many devoted henna fans there (including me!), and you will find all kinds of answers to questions, articles about henna and other herbal hair products, and even photos of people's henna color results. Enjoy!

Cassia is a henna related plant...it's not exactly the same, but it gives the same healthy benefits...you shouldn't have any problem using other chemical processes over it, as long as there are no additives, but it is ALWAYS imperative to do an off the scalp test to make sure...just go by the same recs that the hennaforhair site gives for testing before henna...

Otherwise...what she said! :-)

Ive used henna, and henna mixed with indigo. AND I've both bleached it out and colored over it with NO problems at all. I think that you have problems when you are using henna that has other stuff in it. "ive never used Cassia Obovata so i cant say anything about that.

You can use whatever products on your hair you want. You might find that you need less of them though :) My mom has used silicone in her hair her entire life until i started hennaing her hair for her and now its soft and glossy with pretty curls and no frizz!

Though I should mention that you have to be careful because henna reacts differently to different hair. My friend and I used the same exact brand. Hers turned out beautiful. Mine turned out purple. (It was a cool effect, even if it wasn't the desired effect. ^_^ )

I realize this isn't henna, but is Cassia Obovata a permanent hair product or does it wash out over time such as henna?

Also, I don't think any chemical products can be used over henna, is it the same with Cassia Obovata?

Is it OK to use regular hair products on the hair, such as anti-frizz products and overnight conditioning treatments after using Cassia Obovata?

I'm a henna and Cassia Obovata virgin (blushing),

I get mine in 800g bags from an Indian grocery and it's been fine. Just make sure it doesn't have amla in it (Indian ladies use it to darken their hair), but if it's for mehndi rather than hair it should be ok.

If you go to hennaforhair.com and check out the forums you can search for the brand name and see if anyone has anything to say about it. I buy my henna from an Indian grocery store and I did that to check it out. The stuff I use is mumtaz al-aroosa and I've had good luck with it both times I've done my hair.

Sorry, I have another henna question. :D I went to a local Indian grocery store this weekend and I came across some body art quality henna (very inexpensive, about $1.50 a box, but I made sure it was body henna and not hair henna) and bought three boxes but I'm a little nervous about using it since I didn't order it online. Since I bought it directly from the store that specializes in Indian products, do you think it would be safe to use? I'm probably being way silly about this but I'm anxious about using the wrong stuff the first time for hennaing my hair!
