Hi all,
I'm looking for some help and recommendations from all of you loverly makeup experts.
My plan is to be a Mexican Day of the Dead Girl and I was totally inspired by artist Sylvia Ji's paintings. I want to look just like the chicks in the paintings and am not quite sure what to use to paint my face.
Here are a few pix for reference -

people.tribe.net/e7e22860-...5170fb2d7b
and
people.tribe.net/e7e22860-...47c80040ea
I'm thinking Kryolan's aquacolors would probably work, but I haven't actually used them before, so my guess is just based on things I've heard about different products. I don't want to use cheapy halloween makeup because I want to make sure I look KILLER and I want it to last all day, at least!!!
Any thoughts??

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Mon, October 6, 2008 - 12:25 AMKryolan would definitely be a good choice, also Ben Nye and Mehron make great professional quality stage makeup.
and if you want to go all out, you could block out your eyebrows too. -

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Mon, October 6, 2008 - 1:44 AMTake notes during your practice runs and photos of the results for reference. Rub a plain soap over your eybrows if you want to block them out. Use a dusting of loose white at the very end. -

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Mon, October 6, 2008 - 4:14 PMI third the Ben Nye or Kryolan, and I would recoment the aquacolor because grease paint is more likely to smudge. Also I'd surgest using a seeling power or spray, altho a spray can some times leave a wee bit of a sheen on the face (or where ever sprayed) but it is suposse to be sweat proof and it would difanintly help with the staying power :)
good luck! cant wait to see the photos. I'd really like to try it out too even if just to see what it looks like.

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Mon, October 6, 2008 - 4:30 PMYou can use liquid bandaid in a spray bottle as a sealer. To smoosh down one's eyebrows, roll beeswax in your hands until it is warm and smoosh in! -

Sat, October 18, 2008 - 10:36 AMAh cool. I've been trying to find a way to block out eye brows without having to spend lots of money (cos I'm too poor at the moment) I heard that you can use soap as well, but I havent tryed it.
How does one remove said beeswax from eyebrows when finished?

Sat, October 18, 2008 - 9:02 PMYaaaaah, how DO you get beeswax out of eyebrows? That sounds ouchy! -

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Wed, October 22, 2008 - 12:31 PMA good body oil should loosen the wax...it's what's recommended to use to get off excess wax when doing any type of body waxing...alot of wax kits will have a little bottle of oil in with it. -

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Thu, October 23, 2008 - 4:49 PMYes, oil will get anything waxy out. If you don't have body oil, you can even use vegetable or olive oil from your kitchen pantry.

Sun, October 19, 2008 - 4:53 PMHere is another way to cover your eyebrows that may not be so painful to get off. (Liquid Band-aid is pretty much super glue)

Other than that...I have no other advise...but those pictures are FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!!!!! -

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Sun, October 19, 2008 - 4:55 PMWash out the beeswax in the shower. It takes a bit of work because beeswax is stickier than parafin, but it's the hot water that really helps. -

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Wed, October 22, 2008 - 11:33 AMDish soap helps get the beeswax out too. I also take a washcloth and get it hot and wring well then let it sit onmy eyebrows for a bit, helps soften it.

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Sun, October 19, 2008 - 8:14 PMGracias for the help and advice so far.
I blocked out my eyebrows last year, I was Medusa, with a glue stick. It worked really well and all it took to take it off was some vaseline and soap and water. I just have a cheapy Staples glue stick I use. I also use it to stick the Voodoo Mica stuff I got from Mardi Love under my eyes and on my brow bone. I must add though, I don't have sensitive skin at ALL, so if you have touchy skin it may not work as well as it does for me.

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Fri, October 24, 2008 - 2:51 AMArg I really want to try this out. I wish I had my kit with me!
So people saying that just hot water should get the glue out with no proplem? I'll have to try and find a good cheep brand in the UK thats not going to do anything silly to skin/hair and comes out easy! -

Re: Halloween Makeup help please!
Fri, October 24, 2008 - 5:20 AMWell, it can, but an oil will work much better...you won't have to scrub and pull...it'll just loosen it from the hair. I'd suggest a bottle of Neutrogena Light Sesame Oil. It's great during the winter months, anyhow. Believe me, it won't go to waste. -
