Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 11:12 AMI use something called Face Adhesive that I like better than spirit gum on my skin.. there's no brand or anything on it.. I just looked.. I got it at a local costume shop.. it comes in a tube.. I apply it with a small paint brush.. it stays on really good. comes off fine, too.. I put it on a model who gets really sweaty for a feather beard & eyebrows & it didn't come off.. yes! -

Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 11:38 AMPersonally I am a spirit gum fan, I use it to stick on everything. As long as you don't have a latex allergy, you can also use a product called "prosthetic adhesive", it's similar to liquid latex, it's used in theater make-up and can easily be found on-line. -

Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 12:30 PMohhh this is fabulous! This is just the kind of thing I was looking for! I was thinking of trying to make an effect like this with face paint, but I already have feathers so I'll give this a shot instead :D Great find!

Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 12:45 PMno it's not latex based. the ingredients in my Ben Nye spirit gum are: Alcohol Denat (SDA 40), Copal, Rosin, Ethyl Ether.
i think there are people that do have a reaction to spirit gum though, so it would be a good idea to test it first.

Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 3:34 PMfor what ever reason, spirit gum just wont stick on me, I use eyelash glue from the dollar store, one small tube has lasted me for a year now, it's what I use to put my bindi's on. This is just an idea, I have never used this for feathers but it might work, let us know if this works out for you and pictures we want pictures! -

Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 3:59 PMdo you wait until the spirit gum is almost dry but still tacky? because if you paint it on and try to apply something right away it's not gonna stick.
you also have to hold whatever it is there for a few seconds while the spirit gum is drying to get it to adhere strongly...
i have also used the same tube of eyelash glue for YEARS haha :) then i found some cool metal beads that make great bindis, but the eyelash glue just didnt hold well enough.
i think for something like feathers, either one would work fine though :) -

Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 4:55 AMPerhaps that is my problem. I will give it another try once my eyelash glue goes bad, because I just can't see me using it all before it grows feet and runs away.
Thanks for the info..... -

Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 12:47 PMyeah....i should probably just throw my eyelash glue away and get a new tube. mine is so old it's probably gone bad >_<
Ben Nye sells a very small bottle of Spirit Gum, which is what i have, and for the same reason. i hardly ever use it!!

Re: Feather makeup- how to do this?
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 1:29 PMIt's a little extreme and needs to be done with great care, but if I'm out all night with bindi's on, especially if it's hot and I'm going to dance and sweat, I use fake nail glue to attach bindis or spangles, I have been doing it for years. It's not for sensitive skin though, and NOT close to the eyes, although bridge of the nose seems fine.
The trick is to put your foundation on first, then face powder the area WELL. Put a tiny dot of fake nail glue on the back of the bindi (I use a darning needle) and apply bindi carefully. As soon as the glue is dry, brush away excess powder.
It should stay on all evening, and will peel off at the end of the evening. The more powder you use the easier it will come off, the less powder you use, the harder it is to get off.
