Freckles and makeup

I am not a big makeup wearer. I have tons of freckles and fair skin. I like not having to put on tons but would like to have something just to make me look put-together. When i wear eyeliner and lip gloss, I think it doesn't look complete. I thought maybe if I put a foundation on it might help. I do not want to cover my freckles though but it seems like everything I have tried makes it look like thats what I am trying to do. It doesn't look natural.

Are there any suggestions on foundations or minerals, etc... that just even up your skin without covering up freckles? I have tried Bare Essentuals (sp?) but it made me itch really bad and it didn't look all that great. Any help would be wonderful :) THANKS!

    You might try Everydayminerals.com

Their formula doesn't contain bismuth oxychloride, like some mineral formulas do. That's typically what causes reactions in people with sensitive skin. Also, they have different coverage formulas to choose from. Original Glo is their sheerest, followed by semi matte, matte, and intensive. Intensive being the heaviest coverage.

You can order sample kits to find your shade or formula. Just pay shipping!

I've had good luck with using their makeup for performances. Even at the Renaissance Faire where everything was sweaty and humid and gross, my makeup stayed looking pretty good all day.

For staying power during performance, you could try a sheer, oil-absorbing liquid foundation applied with a damp sponge, set with a translucent powder. If you are a big fan of mineral powders (which are supposed to give an airbrush effect, and may lessen or hide freckles even more, depending on the lighting) try several brands, and see which feels best. Some may be more drying, and you will have to apply extra moisturizing products under, others may be more finely milled, softer feeling, but may be more sheer and not provide as much coverage to problem areas.
I would recommend going to your favorite makeup product counter or sales representative to try a few shades, see what feels good on your skin. get a few samples to try separately to make sure that itchy feeling is not an allergic reaction.
I also have fair skin and freckles, and love that sheer foundations can also be "layered" to build coverage to show or hide the freckles as I desire. Depending on if the desired effect is for under stage lights, outdoor , or dim restaraunt performance, will probably determine the level of coverage, and also the contrast and strength/darkness of the other makeup used, and the colors of blush and lipstick you pick will also help to contrast with the skin and enhance the appearance of the freckles.

I say hell with the foundation, let your freckles be free. Be proud of your freckles~! I spent years covering mine and this year stopped. I have yet to see any foundation that doesnt make it look like you are trying, and I've tried everything from MAC, all kinds of mineral makeups, etc. BAH! You can still get a more polished, finished look by adding blush to your apples, bronzer in your hollows, and something pearly to highlight areas. A mattifying translucent powder can help make the skin tone look a bit more even simply by reducing shine. On stage go high glam with your eyes and lips, do smokey eyes, lip liner, bold color, and a drop of pearly or glittery something in the middle of the bottom lip. Mascara is also a must, if you aren't already using it.

If you want something that will even out your skin tone a bit while NOT covering your freckles I would go with a tinted moisturizer.
If you need more coverage, FACE Atelier is a great foundation. I use it on freckled clients that have unever skin tone. Its gorgeous!
If you have even skin tone but have blemishes, you are better off just concealing blemishes and then using a light dusting of powder all over. Translucent so that it doesnt dull freckles!

Yay for you not wanting to cover your freckles! I love them :)

What about mascara? I've noticed that I can do a full face of makeup, but something always seems off and unfinished looking if I haven't put mascara on yet. It always seems to make everything pop just right. Maybe just a tad of blush or bronzer instead of foundation? Sounds like a tinted moisturizer would handy...I just might have to look into that myself. Ya know for those days that you want a full face of makeup...but with out having to do too much. :)

Oh yeah - mascara is the key to looking finished. I also find that if I think I have made a total mess of my shadow, mascara makes it OK.

        I <3 mascara!!!!

no matter how shitty I feel or look- I know in my drawer full of mascara (I think I own upwards of 10 tubes) I can create a combination that does what I need to lighten and lift my face and just give it that extra pop and make me feel that much better about my self and my day.

!!!! thank god for mascara... I'd be so shit out of luck if I didn't have it... =) thats the one product I couldn't seriously live w/o... well that and maybe my black eyeliner. ; )
