I've been looking at these perfect, dramatic eyebrows and wondering what I should do about mine. I worry about going too far, getting them too thin and having to fill them in every day. I definitely don't want that. I prefer a natural but still arched look. Just a little more than my natural ones. Should I go to a salon to have it done right the first time? Note: I am a complete retard about makeup and learning as I go for dance.

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:08 PMI use a powder as a base to fill in and darken with an angle brush. This already adds lots of "volume" and will help you create the shape you desire. I keep mine as thick, or wide as possible just pluck out any strays. Fill in or add shape to the arches with a brow pencil, preferibly one that's a bit more dry so they do not look too un-natural. then use a brow brush/comb to blend the pencil and powder, smothing out brows (i love the kind that come on the other end of the brow brushes, lil short ones...). For an evening look, i even use mascara (clear works the cleanest but black or whatever brow color to enhance volume of the brows you do have!) to keep the hairs in place... or brow wax but it does not work as well and tends to smudge...

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:13 PMBefore you decide to pluck, I would go to a drug store & purchase some eyebrow stencils (usually found near the eyelash curlers). Then you can try different shapes on your face to see what you like -- just put the up to your eyebrow & fill in with a pencil or brow powder.
Next, once you decide what shape you really like, it is well worth the money to go to a salon to get them plucked for the first time. Then after that, al you have to do is maintain - totally easy. -

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:18 PMThat's a great idea. Thanks. That's a good way of being able to show a salon "This is what I want." rather than going in with a vague "I want my eyebrows to be pretty." :)

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:16 PMSometimes salons can go really thin even if you ask to keep them thicker so i would get a personal recommendation from someone if you oculd. If you want to do them at home, put concealer all over your whole eyebrows. Then take a DARK pencil and draw in the shape that you want. Yes, it looks silly, but it makes it the easiest to have a noce defined line. Then just pluch everything thats still covered in concealer and not pencilled in dark. Wash your race then fill them in normally with brow powder and an angled brush and they should be great! -

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 2:28 PMThere is also a trick to figuring out your natural curve to work well with the eyes:
Take your make-up brush or pencil and angle it from the bottom edge of your nose up to your brow. First cross thru the iris, the point where the pencil meets your brow should be the highest part your arche. Then cross thru the outer edge of your eye, the point where it meets the brow here should be the end of your brow.
So that should help with shaping, so you don't end up with pretty brows... that don't sit on your face right. :) -

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 7:47 PMYou could always try plucking using the minimalist approach.
1. Pluck strays in between brows. To figure out where, hold a pencil from the outer edge of the nose, straight up to the inner corner of your eye, then up to your eyebrows, pluck any strays in that appear towards the inside of the pencil (in between the brows). Do one side, then do the other side.
2. Follow Levona's procedure with the same pencil to determine the high part of the arch and the outer end. Just pluck any strays under neath the shape. Pluck FEWER than you think you need to. You can always go back and repluck, but you can't replant a hair. You'll just have to wait for it to grow in if you over pluck.
If you can't decide if to pluck a hair or not, using your tweezers, push the hair out of the way and see how the shape looks if with the hair "not there." That's how I tell if a hair should stay or go. -

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Wed, April 23, 2008 - 8:40 AMI went to the salon the first time very worried and concerned about them doing it wrong and relocating my eyebrows to a new "zipcode"! :^) Anywhoos, it was the most wonderful experience. I will never go back to plucking! They know me, and they know I want a natural thicker shape to my eyebrows ( and NO oil 'cause it makes me break out everytime...) Anyway, I go to them once a month and it's one of those things that makes me feel like a million bucks. My face has a nice frame to it and I feel like I got pampered too! It's so much easier than plucking each one yourself. But do find a reliable eyebrow technician that you can trust. I'm good friends with mine now, just from the amount of times I've gone to her! -

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Wed, April 23, 2008 - 9:54 AMI just went to a salon, paid them $8, and they made my eyebrows perfectly arched. Now I don't go back because I don't want to pay $8 a week, but I just tweeze the shorter hairs because I know those are the ones that are trying to grow back, and consequently aren't supposed to be there.

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 12:39 PMHi Tara, I would not tweeze for a couple of weeks....I know this is hard but trust me......then find a good Aesthetician to have them done correctly. She can help you with the correct shape for your face. This is what I do for my clients. -

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 4:23 PMI would also have it done regularly by a pro, then to maintain in between, you can pluck the strays.
I recently had a disaster though where the tech made my brows uneven and there was a hole in one of them, they actually LOST their natural shape (which I like) I would DEFINITELY get a good referral. I am in the beauty industry (hair stylist) and allowed someone new (to me) to do my brows (big mistake)
There is actually a long thread somewhere in this tribe about my horrible experience, it was right before a big performance (probably my biggest one to date) I was so PISSED.
Moral of the story, get several referrals and you can't go wrong, also, make sure they listen to you.

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 5:36 PMWell based on ur pic you have beautiful brows to begin with, but start with a professional and then maintain their work. Ask some of your gal pals to see whose good in your area. (Hint: obviously don't bother to ask is you don't admire their brows.)
Tell that person what you want - a cleaned up, natural brow with an arch carved out. Make sure you tell them you don't want pencil thin brows.
The best brow-job I ever had was with this old Asian lady (and I do mean old) at a nail salon in Porter Square, she pushed my head back, through on some wax and ripped both sides in under 30 seconds. I was scared of all get-up to look at what she did to me when she shoved the mirror in my face. They were the best brow's I've ever had.
On the flip side I've spent twice that at a spa/salon and had a woman labor over my brows for 15 minutes and walked out wondering what she did.

Re: Perfect eyebrows
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 9:34 AMi agree. if ur worried about it, find a good professional and maintain after that.
if you decide to do it yourself and if you're having trouble with the pencil line-up, you can use dental floss pulled tight. if you need to mark the line, you can make a little tick with eyeliner, and use it for guidelines so you don't loose your place.
