I know that mica can interfere with close-up photography and make you look like a shiny beacon of light.
So my question is how to counteract that?
With mineral-only makeup. Perhaps I am doomed to being the shiny one?

Re: mica
Wed, August 26, 2009 - 7:17 AMYou can't counter-act it. Mica is a shiny subtance that reflects the sunlight & light from cameras/stage lights. You can't get it to stop reflecting. (and it's not just close-up photography that has this issue) The solution is to not wear a foundation with mica in it. -

Re: mica
Thu, August 27, 2009 - 5:09 PMTo lessen the shine you might try dusting some plain, matte powder over it. Even a dusting of baby poder will do in a pinch.
It will be sheer but reduce the reflection. -

Thanks!
Thu, August 27, 2009 - 8:30 PMI'll have to check out the ingredients for baby powder. Last thing I want is another allergic reaction.
Thanks! -

Thu, August 27, 2009 - 8:37 PMI remember many years ago using baby cornstarch powder. Johnson's I think. It was in the same baby powder bottle but with a different color wording on the label. Mix a little bit of that with you usual face powder and that might help tone down the shine.

Re: mica
Thu, September 10, 2009 - 8:09 PMHave you thought about using a loose translucent powder? I apply mine with a brush, dusting it evenly over my foundation, and have never had a problem "glowing." You can get away with liquid foundation + translucent powder for photo shoots, but if it's warm or you're performing, I recommend creme-to-powder foundation instead (also topped with the powder). -
