Ok...the package says that my fake eyelashes are reusable. Question is, how do you clean them? The mascara and glue builds up not to mention if it's going near my eye, I want it as hygienic (sp?) as possible.
Any ideas?
I washed mine gently in water and a non soap solution but the individual lashes stuck together and dried at odd angles.
HELLP!!!

Re: Cleaning fake eyelashes
Fri, December 23, 2005 - 4:17 PMI just pick it off (the dried glue)with my fingers..
you could then swab some alcohol on with a q tip if you want cleanliness.. :D

Re: Cleaning fake eyelashes
Fri, December 23, 2005 - 7:23 PMNo idea if this is the right way to do it or not, but when I clean the eyelashes, I try to pick off as much of the glue as possible. Then I drop them into some makeup remover in a little bowl. After I think they are all loosened up (however long your makeup remover takes), then I pick them up with tweezers and lay them on a paper towel and use a qtip to brush down the lashses and rub off the mascara. I usually put it back in the remover and repeat once or twice.
When I have decided they are clean. I put a thin little line of glue on the plastic form that they came on and let it get tacky. Then I mostly dry the lashes against the paper towel (they were sitting in the makeup remover while the glue was drying). Then I stick them onto the glue and use an eyelash comb to comb out the lashes while they dry (maybe 15 seconds or so). -

Re: Cleaning fake eyelashes
Sat, December 24, 2005 - 5:36 PMYea, the glue will just puul off carefully. I wouldn't use mascara on them though. The ones I use are very think and long, so it would just make them clump and look a mess. If you really feel you need mascara on them, get thicker, longer, darker ones and skip that. -

Re: Cleaning fake eyelashes
Sat, December 24, 2005 - 8:22 PMI got the remover on the lashes and it loosened it all up so i could unclog the lashes,.. then i rubbed the glue off with a q-tip, all clean now. then i washed them in cleanser and rinsed them. i tried to blow dry em a few seconds to enhance the curl again.. bad idea turns out,.. got wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too curled LMAO! had to rewet it and let it dry in the tray.
If you felt the need to use mascara with the lashes maybe your not mascaraing your real lashes before applying the fake? Or maybe your using a real cool funky colour mascara and needed to do the fakes =) I'm a little hesitant about doing my fakes,.. well ok i don't have cool coloured mascara either but i was worried about peeling off my lashes by mistake, how do you manage to keep them on while mascaraing? -

Re: Cleaning fake eyelashes
Sun, December 25, 2005 - 9:07 PMI have always heard that you are supposed to apply mascara after the lashes to "blend" them together. It has always worked great....until I wanted to reuse them. LOL
They stay on fine after waiting the glue to dry well. I wait for an extra minute or two, they stay on fine.
Thanks to everyone for all advice.

Re: Cleaning fake eyelashes
Wed, December 28, 2005 - 12:13 PMI knew when I posted this someone would jump on me for having mascara on my eyelashes. It is like the pariah of makeup techniques, but I do have my reasons. I own around 50 pair of fake eyelashes for various uses. Some are clear, some are funky colors, some are metallic etc. Some are thick, thin, short, long, and everything in between. They do get gunk on them, whether that is eyeliner, or mascara or just odd goo from who knows where. I don't always put mascara on the falsies, but sometimes I have need to. In the years of becoming various beings and things for the stage, I have run the gamut of things to do with the eyelashes.
So, as asked, I was just sharing my way of cleaning the things when needed. To each their own of course. -

Re: Cleaning fake eyelashes
Thu, January 5, 2006 - 8:13 AMI was told as well to use a little mascara on the fake eyelashes. It helps to blend them, bind them a little and when you take photos, there is no glare off the fake eyelashes.
