I just have to add to this already fabulous list of advice that I don't think that will be much of a problem. I wear my fake eyelashes for each show, so every week to two weeks, and my natural lashes are fine. And i have really sensitive eyes. I think the thing is in the BDSS they probably perform very often compared to most dancers, so they are wearing them a lot more than most people. That's just my .02.

Definitely worth it to replace the glue that comes with the lashes with glue by DUO. It comes in clear and brown i think. I've only ever used the clear and its fantastic. The lashes stay on great.

My tips. Squeeze a bit of the glue out then run the edge of your eyelash across it, not the other way around. Give it a good 30 seconds before you stick it on. The glue has to get tacky before you put it on your skin or it wont stick. Start at one corner, then law it down across the eyelid (I start at the outer corner, but i know people that start at the inner corner.) Hold the corners down for a second to make sure they stick well. Leave your eyes shut for about 10 seconds (or just look down) so that the glue can set well before you start moving your eyes around.

Before you apply the glue, lay the eyelashes down on your eye where you want them to make sure you dont need to trim them.

I would NEVER just pull off the lashes. Whenever I wear them, being the strip type or the individual clusters, I always use an oil first, followed by eye makeup remover. Here's what I do:

First, have some tissues nearby that you can reach for with your eyes closed!

I'll use either Vitamin E oil or Jojoba oil, whichever I grab first, and put a few drops on my fingertips. Then close my eyes and just massage the oil on my eyelids and lashes to loosen up everything. I use waterproof EVERYTHING plus a coating of Ben Nye Final Seal so my makeup can pretty much withstand a hurricane! The oil loosens all of that stuff up and the lashes usually just fall off on my fingers. I'll take a tissue and gently wipe most of the gunk off. Then I'll take a cotton pad and use Neutrogena's eye makeup remover (it's the one in a bottle that you need to shake to blend the ingredients) to wipe off the residue of any remaining oil/makeup. Then, I'll use my usual cleanser to really clean my skin.

If you're going to try lashes for the first time, don't be afraid to try the little individual clusters as well. I use the LONG length all over as they are easier to handle and I can always trim them down with scissors.

Good luck and happy lashes!!

I don't know about the lashes that pop up around Halloween time, but I don't know why they would be any worse than what you get at a beauty supply store. I would think the glue is the part you want to be careful on. (I get mine at Sally Beauty Supply).

When I put on fake lashes, I put them on the skin as close to the lash line as possible, but not on the lashes themselves. Also, I put eye makeup and liner on first (I've found that this helps when I wash off the glue later. One time I put the lashes on before eyeliner and not only did I almost take the lashes off by accident when I put my eyeliner one, I had glue stuck to my eyelids for a least a day after I took the makeup off). I personally put mine on from outer corner of eye to inner, but that's just a personal preference, I think. Also, I curl my real lashes before I put the fake ones on, then curl both sets together, then apply mascara.

Good luck! (Oh, and you make want to get good makeup remover. I haven't bought any yet, but it would have probably helped when I had lash glue stuck to my eyelids that one time)

So, I confess to being fairly non girly - so much so that i'm only now exploring the possibilities of fake eyelashes (i'm a little late on the makeup train!). Any tips for putting those puppies on? And, where exactly do you get them? I've been seeing some AMAZING halloween lashes at everywhere from walgreens to wal mart to the costume stores, but are those safe/ok to use?

Also: I heard horror stories from the BDSS about them wearing them and I confess it kinda scared me, so i don't want to screw up my normal lashes. I know that's probably an unfounded fear but I figured I'd ask you makeup masters! :)

any help you could give would be awesome!
