What is the best way to apply glitter on top of eye shadow? I've always just sorta patted it on and hoped that it mostly stayed put. Is there a better way? Or something to set it with?

Sat, September 13, 2008 - 12:05 PMMy teacher Daria sells a product called Eye Kandy. I love it! No problem with my contacts so far . Check out mystic mirage .net . Other vendors sell it too on line. There is a clear liquid set for the glitter called liquid sugar. I am the girl who can sweat off any makeup. This has worked for me very well. Use a good makeup remover to take it off.

Sat, September 13, 2008 - 9:32 PMIf you dip your brushin the sugar, then in the glitter and palm it (run it around in your palm) thenyou can dab it on with a brush or with the tip of your finger. You get a nice subtle coverage without damaging your shadow or liner....then I use a heavy application on top of liner

Sat, September 13, 2008 - 9:54 PMWell, I don't want to tell you to ever use something on your eyes that was made for anything else, but before I knew better I'd use lip gloss to keep glitter on. A really thin layer of lip gloss patted on over your shadow with a sprinkling of glitter over that work really well.
But like I said, it's not actually a good idea, just something that worked for me (and lucking didn't harm me) when i was first starting to play with make-up.

Sat, September 13, 2008 - 11:33 PMWhen I'm going to use glitter, after my preliminary steps (a small amount of foundation, then powder, on the lids), I first use a creme eyeshadow, then pat the glitter on top of that (without waiting for the creme to 'set', of course). I've been able to get very solid glitter-coverage with this method, and it stays put, with very little to no creasing, even if it's on for several hours.

Sun, September 14, 2008 - 1:56 PMYou can also mix the glitter with the eyeshadow before you use it. Easy to do if it's a loose powder shadow, but if it's a pressed powder, simply flake up some of the shadow with your fingernail, then put it on a paperplate. Sprinkle in some glitter & mix it up with your brush. Then you can either apply dry with the brush, or wet the brush first & then apply the shadow/glitter mixture for a more concentrated/high-pigment look. Side note: remember to use a product approved for use on eyes, like Eye Kandy, not just any 'ole glitter. -

Sun, September 14, 2008 - 7:58 PMI use a larger brush, like a soft styled eye shadow brush with a light bit of liquid sugar and then the eye kandy glitter and it works great for coverage over my eyeshadow. If I need a line then I use the smaller brush. It stays put, comes off easy when it's time to go to bed and looks fantastic. Plus, the glitter is designed to be safe for use around eyes.

Sun, September 14, 2008 - 8:30 PMYou can bypass palming and go straight from dipping brush in Liquid Sugar > dipping brush in EK > apply to lid by PATTING, not wiping or rubbing.
Use a non-absorbent brush for this kind of app.
The lip gloss on the lid is not a bad idea. If I want that kind of coverage I will cover the lid first with petroleum jelly (evil stuff but a miraculous carrier, especially mixed with mica powder, oh là là!) or vegetable glycerin (not as evil). -

Thu, September 25, 2008 - 7:33 AMThanks for your advice, all! I used the liquid sugar and "pat it on" method and it worked fantastic! Everything stayed in place for about 9 hours before it started getting creased and funky. And it was a warm day (ugh, sweaty).

Fri, September 19, 2008 - 5:45 AMI use eye kandy also but my new fave is Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Eye Gel. It is easier to work with and a little goes a long way. Once it dries, it stays put completely. I love all the colors. I usually put a tiny bit on my fingertip and applie where I want it. Just make sure to let it dry. Everyone always loves my eyes when I use it. -
