Controlling shine

I did a search on this topic but didn't find anything relevant, so I thought I'd ask...

I have oily skin, mostly on my forehead (like a lot of people, of course). I use a mineral foundation that works better than any other makeup I've tried, but I still can't completely eradicate the shine I get after I've had it on for a little while.

Has anyone found ANYTHING that can help combat that shine? Piling on the powder seems to have no effect. I hate it when photos are taken of me and all I can see is that horrible glare!

Thanks!

I have found that sometimes the mineral makeup makes the skin look dewy - and that will give the shine. There is something in them to reflect the light - have you tried something very matte, maybe just on your forehead. It happens to me too and although I love the look I get from the minerals, that shine makes me wonky so for performing, I switched back to a matter type foundation.

Perhaps a dusting of finishing powder over the mineral make-up?

Have you tried addressing the cause of your oily skin? It's not always something you're stuck with. It can be down to things such as diet, the products you use to cleanse your skin, hormones etc etc.

Easiest one first - what do you use to cleanse your skin, and how often do you do it? If you're using a regular cleanser or soap which contains SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), that will strip your skin and cause your sebaceous glands to go into overdrive making it more oily. Try just using hot water and a clean face cloth to wash with. If your using mineral makeup, this will work fine to remove it.

Another thought - do have a fringe (bangs in the US?). If so, it could be something your using in your haircare which is perpetuating the problem - again, most store bought shampoos and conditioners contain SLS so could be partly responisble, especially if it's only affecting your forehead.

Only a couple of quick suggestions as I should be working! Hope they help

I would sugest trying a theatrical setting powder. Most of these are designed for performers that are going to be under heavy lighting and performers that are sweating alot. It is designed to keep makeup on and stop it from smudging, but it also helps with a matt finish. Kryolan setting powder or Ben Ney are really good.
Also you could try using a Blotting Paper. Made to absorbs oil after you've finished your makeup and won't add any texture or upset the application.
I haven't tried them myself, but I'm told they work very well.
Also try to avoid using anything that will dry out your skin to much. If your skin is dryed out to much it will try to over compensate (sorry excuse my spelling) by producing more oil. Which = shinnyess!

        Hope that helps :)

Kitty, if NASA put into the space program the amount of effort I've gone to over the years to address the causes of my oily skin, we'd have people living on Mars by now. :D

I've done everything I can over the years and I've REDUCED it, but not eliminated it, so I'm down to trying to control it. I'll take a look at Ben Nye's products, and I couldn't find a web site at all for Kroyolan. I use setting powder already, and I've tried nearly every powder in every makeup product line that you can find in stores, but none of them seem to do it. I put it on, and a minute or two later the shine is back.

"all I can is that horrible glare!" - I totally hear you about that when it comes to photos, and this forehead area is really annoying for me too!

To combat that shine, you can use a mattifying primer (I use MakeUpForEver All Matt, which works perfect on me), then put your foundation on, setting it with a mattifying powder. Also, blotting papers are really helpful during the day.

I really pay a lot of attention to my skin care routine too. I don't "push" too hard on my face when I apply my moisturizer, my foundation, etc, but I make very gentle moves - harsh moves "excite" the sebaceus glands which answer to the agression by producing more oil. And never skip on the moisturizer, or your skin, lacking oil, will produce even more sebum! -_-
OMG, it's complicated to have an oily skin! Argh!

I don't know if you've tried this, but Mary Kay has a product called "oil mattifier". It worked really well on me. I didn't even break-out really bad the next day!

Arbonne makes a product called Neutralizer that I love - comes in a compact type case so it's easy to keep in your purse, but it's lighter, more oil absorbent and doesn't have any color like the usual face powder... for me it's just the trick to neutralize the shine I get after makeup's been on for a while.

I too use oil blotting sheets but I use the ones by Clean and Clear, they are something like 5-6 bucks and sold at any old store (Walmart, Kmart, Target) and they don't disturb your make up when you use them.
I don't perform yet, but I have been carrying around the sheets in my purse forever just because I'm always oily; I will notice my face is shiney, whip out a sheet, press it on my face and throw it away.
      Easy-peasy!

does anyone remember Bonne Belle selling tiny tubes of goodness called (I think) Shine Free? I used to go clubbing 6-7 hours with no nose shine.
