How do you put the darn things on? Also, should you put your eye make-up on first and then apply the lash with make-up touch ups or do you put the lash on first. Either way it goes, I am still not doing it right.

Re: False Eyelashes
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 12:29 PMYou can do either way. If you put your lashes on first, you don't have to touch up your makeup, and you are gluing them to your skin, so they are slightly less likely to fall off.
If you put your makeup on first, then you can use black eyeliner to conceal that you might not get the false lashes right up against your lash line. But if your makeup is not great, it might adhere to the flue and peel right off your face. I personally put my makeup on first, then my lashes, then touch up my eyeliner.
Your lashes may need to be trimmed. Most falsies are too long out of the box. Trim from the inner eye, one clump of lash at a time until they are the right length for your eye (usually the edge of your iris).
Don't put on too much glue and let it get tacky before putting the lash on your eyelid. I like to squeeze up a a little dollop onto the top of the tube and then drag the lash through it. Then you need to wait at least 30 seconds for it to get tacky, some glues take longer. If your glue is near the end of its shelf life (6 months btw), be sure to really kneed the tube before applying any.
When you apply lashes, start from the middle. I use the wrong end of a paint brush or makeup brush, because I usually have gunk on my fingers, and they are big and clumsy. Go carefully, tapping the lash down to the lash line and holding it. You will need to hold the inner eye area longer than anywhere else.
Don't glue the false lashes to your eyelashes. It will pull out your natural lashes when you go to take them off. To get the two sets to meld as one, curl them together (wait a good minute after you put them on, you can use this time to touch up eyeliner, or apply bindis while you have the glue out). Then comb them together and apply mascara to the bottom (your natural lashes).
Don't worry about blending them too much though, it really isn't that important, unless there is a big difference.
When you remove your lashes, put them back in the box, adding a touch of extra glue if you need to. This will help them keep their curl and curve.

Re: False Eyelashes
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 12:34 PMI have found that if your eye makeup is oil based, then it works better to put the eyelashes on before the makeup. A good example are some of those eyeshadow pencils, **especially** the GREASY ones by CoverGirl. Otherwise, it is better to do before.
I put a thin line of glue on the lashes and then let it set for 30 seconds or so to get the glue tacky. I put mine on from the inside to the outside.
Also consider cutting them to your eye length. Many of them come too long anyways. Sometimes cutting them in half and only using one half (glued from the middle of your eye to the outside edge) gives a nice look.
For some reason, I find it easier to put fake lashes on other people than myself.

Tue, July 19, 2005 - 8:32 PMThank you guys. Great information, I like the curler idea...I have one of those things:) It is easier for me too to put them on other people, just not myself.

Fri, July 22, 2005 - 4:17 PMIm glad to know I'm not the only one that has a problem with these little things. I had given up on wearing them cause they never seem to want to stick to my eyes, but i was told to put them on after my makeup i'll try the before option now.

Re: False Eyelashes
Fri, July 22, 2005 - 8:10 PMI do everything the same as Shawna, except I use tweezers to place my lashes on after the glue has become tacky. Its very accurate and I can set them exactly right every time. -

Re: False Eyelashes
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 10:37 AMOk ladies I know I'm coming to this a littile late but what brand? Because I've been told that the brand and type of glue make all the difference. Like, some types of glue work better than others? Any ideas? -

Re: False Eyelashes
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 11:08 AMMy preference is for the little individual eyelashes! I use medium and long lengths and use only about 2 or 3 medium and maybe 2 of the long lengths ones at the very outer edge of my eyelid. I find these little clumps easier to handle than a full band of eyelashes!
Oh, and when you use the full band eyelashes, before applying glue, take one end in each hand and "roll" them back and forth. What I mean by that is remember the SLINKY toy? Remember how you'd hold it and let the spring fall from hand to hand? That is the motion, except that you're holding a false eyelash between thumb and index finger. That motion helps to FLEX the band, soften it a little so that it's easier to handle and will more easily follow the curve of your eye.
But again, on myself, I prefer the individuals.
Good luck! -

Thu, August 11, 2005 - 1:09 PMI think that I have mastered the eyelash delima. My right I is still a challenge but for the most part I am hot mama batting her eyes away. Thank you guys for all of your help.
I was looking on this other site www.shuuemura-usa.com and they have feather false eyelashes...they look so cool. I may have to get some. -

Re: False Eyelashes
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 6:44 PMHey speaking of lashes ..... I've got Ren Fest coming up and while I usually wear lashes to dance - Fest is 7 weekends in lashes?!?!? I figure I'll be in them from 7am to 7 or 8 pm ... 12-13 hours. I've never worn them for that long ... maybe 8 hours.
What do you all like to do for big Fairs .... natural, lashes, piles of mascara,
D:all of the above?

Re: False Eyelashes
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 8:23 AMI usually wear either individuals, or a half set (just outside edge to the middle) for fairs. And I often go light on the mascara, because in a twelve hour day I tend to get wet, sweat and touch my face. I have waterproof mascara, but eventually it icks me out. The individual lashes tend to stay better in a long wear situation in my opinion. And the half set works pretty well too, less flexing and bending than the full set. -

Re: False Eyelashes
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 10:07 AMSweet, thanks!!
I had thought about the individuals but I've never used them. I'll have to give it a try. Any tips for them?
God love waterproof mascara, what would we do without it.
I'll give the half set a try too. I really love lashes, it's just those 12 hour days of wet & sweat are hell on them/me. My eyes itch just thinking about it. (ack) -

Re: False Eyelashes
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 5:01 PMFor the individuals, use the individual lash glue. It is clear, and has a distinct odor, but works better than the white stuff for them. I use tweezers as I have big clumsy fingers. Pick up the lash clump by the front edge, then dip the clump into the glue (it is usually in a little bottle with a screw off lid) so that you get about a cm or so of the lash part in the glue too. Pull it out and hold it in the air for about 10-15 seconds. Then stick it onto the eyelid where you want it and lay it down into your natural lashes. Hold it there for another 5-10 seconds before letting go with the tweezers.
After they are all on, dip a very small brush into your white eyelash glue and brush it along on top of the lashes gently. If they fall off, you didn't wait long enough for them to dry, or didn't get enough glue on there.
The coat of the white helps to seal them down, and make the area more water/sweat proof for long term wear. I don't put the coat of white glue on if I am just doing a regular show (1-2hrs), but for a day at the fair, it goes a long way.
Also, use some barrier spray over your finished makeup, and take it with you for occasional reapplication during the fair. I like the Ben Nye brand, called Final Seal. There are lots of others out there too. I like to get a spray, or put it in a spray bottle, because I can always unscrew the lid and use the tube to 'brush' it on in the heavy wear places. -

Re: False Eyelashes
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 8:34 PMUnfortunately, I cannot use False Eyelashes because of an allergy to Latex in the glue. Can anyone recommend/suggest a latex free or alternative eyelash glue? -

Re: False Eyelashes
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 8:39 PMSpirit gum? or the clear glue? I dont know for sure that they don't have latex, but I am sure you could write to whatever company makes the one you want to buy (whether you buy online or at a local source) and ask them.
I have used spirit gum to put on false eyelashes when I discovered my regular white glue had a hole in the tube and was dryed up! It stuck very well!

Re: False Eyelashes
Tue, August 23, 2005 - 8:29 PMYou can do it either way, but I like to put on my makeup first then the lashes. I swear by them, they make your pictures look great. Be sure to use plenty of glue on your lashes, take you time, that important. What I have done is go to a Beauty Supply store and buy a bunch, practice putting them on, even if you are not performing! It takes some getting use to them. I like the strips best, but the individual lashes are ok, I use them too. If you have BIG eyes, then use the BIG lashes, it will make a difference on you. And be sure to use good quality lash adhesive! It takes time but it's worth all of the trouble, you will get it together in no time!
Look at my album some of the shots I have lashes on. You will wink to the person in the back of the room wearing them.
Good luck, let me know how it turns out.

Re: False Eyelashes
Thu, August 25, 2005 - 12:58 PMI find I can re-use the lashes more (don't reuse too many times) if I put on my eye liner and mascara on my real lashes before I put on the fake ones. I put on mascara because it helps my real lashes blend with the fakes. Sometimes I might touch up the eyeliner a little bit after, but usualy not.

Re: False Eyelashes
Thu, August 25, 2005 - 6:58 PMwell heres my tried and tested method...actually I still have some on from my Tribal Cafe performance on Sat. ..Do your regualr makeup...liquid eyeliner..mascara..and LAST do the single lashes with eyelash glue...short to the center of your eye and long to the outside. Let them dry REALLY well...one coat of gently applied mascara and you are good to go! Just...dont pull them off ...you will lose some of your own! Let them fall off ....people keep complimenting me on my beautiful eyes, If they only knew!!!!!
