I spent last night and this morning henna and indigo*ing my hair and it looks great! but daaaaamn it smells!!!! smells like beet pulp for those of you who do horse things. =) Lol I figured if I got pulled over I'd have to do a cavity search cause they'd wonder where my drugs were!!! =)

but its all good- its pretty I'm pleased with the colour as a whole.

I'm really interested to see how it wears over the next few weeks as I hear the indigo tends to fade a little more quickly!

I want pictures Basha, get on it! :D I've been considering throwing some indigo in mine in a few places to give it more dimension. I've been hennaing all over for the last three or four months. I personally love the smell of henna, its very soothing (though it does smell a little like the hay in a horsebarn) and I love it! Mine doesn't fade very much at all though I have noticed that I have noticable new growth when my hair isn't perfectly clean but I think that's the remnants from the years and years of permanent dyes rather than because the henna isn't covering. My hair IS much shinier and I feel like its growing twice as fast now but that could just be me!

I did mine too, on the 10th (henna only). I think it took a full week for the smell to go away, it was really persistant when my hair got damp. I REALLY don't like the odor but it may just be my chemistry reacting with the henna as I have a friend on whom it smells fine. The color is gorgeous! I was a bit freaked out at first as it looked like I had rubbed Cheetos all over my head but it has oxidized into a gorgeous color. I didn't get the indigo on this time but I will do the underside of my hair with it next go.
Basha and all the indigo girls, give us pictures of how it fades, please.

One week out from the henna treatment

up close the black is still naturally black

the stuff that I didn't get well enough with the indigo you can see has faded out a touch- but its still fairly natural looking as a whole. =)

I have a medium brunette with very strong reds, long enough to sit on, with two wide white streaks at each temple. I know Id have to cover the white streaks to save them, but how do you get an even dye job on very long hair, and is all the effort worth it after? And should I get an extra set of hands to help?

Just doing henna for the red? or doing henna with indigo?

I say get help either way. I'm going to recruit someone to help me do a root cover up here soon.

I used 200gm of henna on my first "dye job" and it was WAY TOO MUCH!
but I also bought a kilo...

My hair is to the middle of my back.

Here is where I get mine, shop.ebay.com/thehealingplace/m.html

they were under a different name, but the henna part went to the healing place. I'm SUPER satisfied with the henna, super fine and amazing stain!

I'd say get help- I used my roommate to help me do clean up around the back of the neck- but would have been better to have her more proactively helping apply- henna and indigo a like.

I am half way on my job- I usually go every 4 weeks on the dot or I get that sweet OH HELL YES I DYE MY HAIR CAN"T YOU SEE MY ROOTS SCREAMING AT YOU look. not fun so.... this will be interesting- first root touch up for me!

And it is a lot of work, I remember saying I have no idea how the girls with the long hair get this done- my hair is longest at just past the jaw in the front only- almost shaved in the back. and it was a fussy mess! but lots of women do it and love it. The woman I spoke with on the phone at henna for hair said they get together and do like a spa day at a friends pond then just rinse in the pond.

    Basha:

Wow, your hair looks great too! In the "faded" picture, your hair looks like it has blue streaks in it. Is that just light reflecting something blue or did you want blue highlights running through your hair? It looks really cool, imo.

    Baysan:

OMG, is your hair really that LONG???

I can think of a way to save the two streaks in the front of your hair, if you don't want to color them. You could wrap the hair in plastic prior to application of henna. I'm not sure if henna and aluminum foil would have a reaction. If not, aluminum foil is used in salons for highlights.

I'd be a little scared to add something like red to light hair, it might turn orange because there isn't enough pigment in some light colored hair.

Do keep us informed, I'm super curious.

thanks =) no thats just cause it was slightly damp and the lighting. =) I wish it would be a beautiful blue if it was wouldn't be!

I'll be taking another picture tomorrow hopefully if I have time if not it'll be on sunday. I can't right now I'm falling out and I have to get up and work in the AM.

But there is a fair amount of fade at this point but as someone pointed out its a dark cherry chocolate colour- its very interesting. =)

And baysan- yeah I can imagine in winter that would be rough- but this was the lady from henna from hair, and they are out west so its a touch warmer than here in Jersey! =)

Yes, my hair really is that long, and around*coughtwentyfivecough* years ago I modeled a hair color and cut. The cut was VERY short, actually shaved into the hairline in the back, and carved out around the left ear. The color was a transparent fire engine red stain, over the brunette, and it was FABULOUS!!! In normal roon light it was normal, and in sunlight it blazed like a forrest fire. I loved it. However, now its just a wee bit longer, and I dont color it anymore, mostly because of the cost. The white streaks were gifts from my children, they gave me every one of them. I wont color them or hide them. They are my history, and I wear them with pride.
