Could be useful for a pimple spot treatment too if it's good for bedsores. And on this note so is a regular aspirin smooshed and mixed with a little H20 to make a paste and put it on the little sucker....off the subject but I thought I'd post it.

I read that it works well as an antiperspirant, so I tried it out. It works OK, but not as well as regular antiperspirants.

My oily skin hated me more when i tried to suck all the moisture out of it. I use nothing but tea tree oil products and those made for sensitive skin, and my skin is sooooo much happier. I also use a light oil free moisturizer right after I wash. It seems to help rather than compound the problem...

Yes, and actually oily skin doesn't age as fast as dryer skins have a tendency to. So that's a plus! Be kind to your skin it's our largest organ.

I've never tried the Milk of Magnesia, but having very oily skin all of my life, I do have experience with what happens when you attempt to dry it up too much. I had assumed that if washing was good, then more washing was better. I ended up drying my skin so much that I broke out something fierce! So, of course, I did the logical thing - I washed even more, not realizing what I was doing at the time. My Avon lady recognized the problem and clued me in to the error of my ways... I returned to a normal routine and the break-outs cleared up. Never again!

I agree with Leana..
I have VERY oily skin and battled it constantly - then I just said "what ever - it is never going to change" and stopped fighting it.. THEN it got better. It is still oily but nothing like it was when I was trying to dry it up all the time.

Always be kind to your skin - you damage your face.. you look old !!! and that is oh so much less attractive than a little oily skin

Milk of magnesia is very alkaline so please be careful because it can be very drying and later irritating to the skin or make your skin become reactive. Skin runs just slightly acidic so if one was to continually use something alkaline, havoc could be wreaked!
For anyone this is not good and for oilier skins it can actually make you oilier beacause the skin will want to make up for the lack of moisture. This can also make you bumpy and clogged later down the line. You'd be better off using a product to soak up the oil you produce as opposed to drying your skin out.

oh this sounds interesting!! i have oily/combination skin and have never been able to find anything that helps enough.

i googled it and found this site with directions on how to use it on your face:
http://www.ehow.com/how_2106962_treat-oily-skin-milk-magnesia.html?ref=fuel&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=ssp&utm_campaign=yssp_art

and of course the wiki page has info as well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_of_Magnesia

the only weird thing is that the first site mentions you can "treat" oily skin by taking MOM tablets...now i know MOM is also used as a laxative (in liquid form?) but will taking tablets have the same effect?
the wiki page mentions the effects of taking MOM internally, but i dont know if that includes tablets? or just ingestion in general....
i wouldnt be willing to find out~ >_<

On a similar note...PeptoBismal makes a terrific facial mask! It's refreshing, great for when you are groggy in the morning and is great for oily skin. Just cotton swab some on your face, let it dry (usually only takes a few minutes), let it set for at least five minutes and rinse.

I would be curious about the milk of magnesia as a makeup base too!
