I have been dancing cabaret for almost four years and have just recently began ATS. So as a cab dancer my hair is usually worn down so I can swish it around. With ATS there are these beautiful flower arrangments around a bun on the head. How are these made? What do you attach the flowers to and how do you attach them? Any advice from the neck up...fake hair to hair sticks would be great! Thanks in advance to my fellow dancers : )

First, search this tribe - it has a WEALTH of past information. Search for everything from 'buns" to "flowers" to "hair sticks" to "falls". LOTS of great info hiding in those archives.

My best advice to you would be SOCK BUN: www.youtube.com/watch It's a really stable base for everything you want to put in your hair. Also, remember to take a few Tylenol before you start putting everything in your hair/on your head -- this will help prevent any headaches that can be caused by all that stuff.

For hair sticks, the trick is to (a) stick them into something like a bun or turban, and (b) rough up the stick itself somehow, so it "grips" the hair better, either by spraying it with hairspray & letting it get tacky or by taking some light weight sandpaper to it.

Fake Hair -- well, depends what type & what you're going for....

For my flowers, I attach hair pins to them (the U-shaped ones, not bobby pins) that way I can bend the pins to being whatever direction I want them to be. Like the hair sticks, it's best to anchor them into something, whether it's a bun or a small, clear ponytail holder. Then I cross the hair pin with a bobby pin.

threadbanger.com type in feathers and watch the tutorial on feather barrettes.

get fake flowers from joann's and apply the asme idea....

      beaded headpieces.

i personally like to throw in a hair swish or headbang in my dancing because i belly dance to metal so im not big on always putting it up but it can be cute.

now i do sock buns normally..but i wil never do one solid bun for belly dance unless it fits the outfit....i would suggest 2 sock buns on each side..it makes your hair look fuller and ats is kidna bout looking big and elaborate.

also making fake dreads or just braids and attaching them adds a nice tough, putting shells on those braids, beads, feathers

thanks for posting the youtube link. I wear my hair like this all the time, but I never thought of putting a sock base. when I do a single bun I usually wrap a scrunchie around my ponytail first, but this would work much better!

The tylenol is a great idea as alot of the heavy stuff will give you a headache. Another idea is to glue a fabric base to a headband and then affix all your goodies to the top and sides. (Think Mardi-Love look) The headband will make the front half of your hair and then I usually do a messy bun in back filled with lots of junk. Some people can't do headbands cause of headaches but I think they are a great way to keep a lot of the weight of the pendants from pulling out my hair. :)

Check out Claire's Boutique and Forever 21 if they're in your area. They're great sources for hair accessories that can be used for both Tribal and Cabaret performances.
