fake hair!

topic posted Mon, May 12, 2008 - 1:29 PM by  Gaitri
So I need some info, oh wise belly dancers!

My hair is roughly chin length and I'm looking for easy/inexpensive options to get longer hair for performing. I do mostly cabaret, so the cool yarn falls probably won't work. I'm assuming my 3 options are some kind of extensions (I've seen ones you just clip in or the long fake pony), a 3/4 wig (and I'm not really sure how that works), or a full wig.

Any suggestions? Any preferences? Any advice? Thanks in advance for the sharing of knowledge!

Do you have a Sally Beauty Supply in your area? They sell 18" long hair falls (yaki pony) for around $3. People never know they're fake until I tell them. If there's not one close you can probably order from their website.

I wear 20" long hair extensions! You just clip them and and there you go.....they even withstand a good hair toss :) I buy mine on ebay and they range in price from $50 and up to $200 for a nice remy set. Right now I am wearing a sewn in set and they are fabulous!!! Enjoy

I like doing stuff with my hair - and I'm mostly cabaret, too.

I have a 3/4 wig......the back of your hair goes up however it goes up and the wig fits on the head at about the place a head band would go - you can then comb/brush the front of your hair into the top & sides. I bought mine 'cause my hair is baby fine and goes limp after awhile.

I also use twin ponytails. I bought -2- long clip on's from Walgreens - used spray-on hair color to get the plastic look off and to match them better to my own hair. I have one single (much thicker) clip on ponytail where I braided some strands and wrapped the ends in holgraphic ribbon trim.

I've found ponytail wraps at the dollar store with beads and paillettes and mix them up to wear over high crown pigtails.

While rough wool yarn falls probably wouldn't quite fit a beaded bra/belt costume, I'm thinking the slinkier yarns (like ?chainette?) would work. Add in a bit of glitter rope trim - toss in a couple of holographic paillettes

    :D :D :D
